What is the basis for your premise that this description applies to legal residents?

You want me to assume that migrants (en masse) will understand American culture and history simply because they have a new place of residence?

And I need to prove that this is the case? I'm afraid that you have this backwards.

You never did explain why state and local law enforcement are required to give Miranda warnings since, as you say, "the Bill of Rights only applies to the federal government".
I do not recall the question ever being asked.

My answer? They should not. There is no Constitutional basis for requiring Miranda warnings. You either have the rights or you do not. Nothing in the Constitution requires government to treat you like a child and remind you.

Not remotely the same. One is in the Constitution and the other is not.

If you allow the mass migration of people by the millions (and they will be given amensty to be permanent residents, at least) you can change the composition of the government very quickly and not for the better.
Y’all continue to make arguments applicable only to ILLEGAL residents. Not remotely the question that I presented.

What if the majority of the local jurisdiction wants to declare that their neighborhood is sovereign Mexico?
Secession? I do not think state secession is precluded by the Constitution. Do you?

Whether a political sub-unit can do so is a different question.

Why should legal, permanent residents be banned from voting in local elections by some “higher” governmental unit, if the majority of the local jurisdiction wants to let them do so?

Because they aren’t citizens.

By your moronic standard, foreign nationals could mail their vote in if the local municipality deemed it okay.

1.2 billion Chinese could sway a many election. The world, via corrupt local officials, would become communist.

What a stupid idea.

Because States are not allowed the create a specific sub citizenship. National citizenship is the only legal category allowed because the founding fathers never imagined a time when half of the population hated America so much that they would want foreigners to decide how they are governed.
100% wrong. The states DO set their own voting standards, limited only by a handful of Constitutional limits (age (18), sex, race)

So what is the basis for the right to remain silent? A right that applies throughout every jurisdiction?

When a person takes the 100 question test to become a citizen, the test is given in English. Without becoming a citizen, we'll have people voting that don't speak the language. Anyone in our country pay taxes, that doesn't make them citizens.

A right against self incrimination is found in the BoR. Again, the BoR were not INTENDED to apply to the States, only to the Feds. Yes, most States enshrined the same right under State law, bc it is good policy in a free society. Your point?

You want non-citizens to vote.
I don’t. Then again, I’m just a regular guy, not a hard core leftist such as yourself. Remember when you claimed to be something akin to conservative? You have exposed yourself as the leftist that you are.

Do you disagree with the founding premise that the government which governs best is that which is closest to the people?

There is no logical reason for non-citizens to vote in ANY election. The idea is absurd.

Oh, I just wanted to see you contort yourself in defense of yet another laughably false, authoritarian position. Thanks.
