I think this could be said about most Obama supporters.

Judging from this thread it can also be said about most non-Obama supporters.

i have no idea what Iowa costs these days. My college was free (scholarship), so I didn't really even know then. Price of college is no indication of quality tho.

Really? So the cost of Harvard is not higher than the cost of La. Tech because Harvard is better quality? That's an interesting perspective.

BTW, Iowa is 13K per year.

BTW, my cost at CC was free, too...National Merit scholarships.

So, in today's money, your scholarship got you 52K worth of education. Mine got me 168K worth.

Most of the cost difference would be attributed to how they receive their funding. Clearly Harvard offers a better education that La tech, but la tech is public so it receives subsidies from the gov't. So the actual cost is much higher than what you pay in tuition.

Higher education is seriously messed up in this country, with a complete disconnect between price and quality.

Do you think you received a better education than me? Iowa is currently ranked 77th in national universities. LSU is 135.

anyway, I was out of state for college, so it was probably cost a lot more.

That makes no sense at all. The endowment at Harvard is 1,000 times higher than the endowment of at La. Tech + La. Tech's state funding.

I would agree that K-12 is messed up. But we have the best college system in the world by far. That's why foreigners come here to study at a much higher rate than US students go to foreign colleges.

Yes.

Right, I am sure Harvard spends more per student than LA tech. but La tech's cost is higher than the tuition due to public funding. Harvard's might be too, but much of that endowment is to actually reduce tuition prices for students and for primary research.

All that matters is the cost of the tuition is not the same thing is the cost to actually teach the student.

Universities are in pretty bad shape too. The rate of tuition has been going up much faster than inflation.

We certainly have some of the best universities in the world. And you can get a really great education in the US. But you can also spend a shite ton of money, not get a good education and then not get a job. have you checked out unemployment numbers for liberal art graduates? YIKES.

Its 167 out of the liberal arts schools. They only rate the top 200. BTW, LSU and Iowa are ranked as national universities.

But anyway, why would you even care what I think?

Just trying to have a civil conversation. Tuba is obviously on the rag and I dare not bring up another thread proving GW to be wrong.

Where are you from in Iowa? I've only been to Cedar Rapids. It was a long time ago. Is there a Washington HS there?

I don't live in Iowa any longer, and was never really "from" Iowa although my family has roots there. My father was in the military and we moved around a lot, so I don't really have a home. I have lived in 8 states / 10 metro areas, and never lived anywhere for more than 4 years until I was over 30.

And my mother grew up in Iowa, and my uncle played CFB for them....so they were always "my team" growing up, well that and my parents alma matta (FSU). thus my connection.
