just so stupid. Still have no idea why they thought they had to do this. There was not a chance in hell that Nixon was going to lose the 72 presidential election.

I found it interesting that the break in was known about and actually forgotten until a year later when they started digging around on other items.
I do not believe for this minute that Woodward and Bernstein were completely truthful in their reporting. Also, it is known facts that Woodward has been caught in multiple lies since then.

if Nixon had been a Democrat, no one would ever have heard of Watergate. The hotel complex would probably have been renamed four times by now.

One of the most overrated scandals in US history, that democrats are still obsessed with and making fricking movies about 50 years later.
I feel like there have been scandals on that par since then that have just evaporated like a fart in the wind.

This is a good point. The Watergate Plumbing team might have been a response to the Pentagon Papers and their leak.

Nixon wasn’t involved and knew nothing about it until after it broke in the news
It was his help in the coverup that brought him down
