Yes, the Purple Cow is still around BR, and they do have some nice stuff. They just opened a new location on Perkins/Acadian near Juban's (I think where the old Eckerd Drug store used to be).

Goodwill is ok; in Baton Rouge I like going to St. Vincent de Paul stores.

Gateway was better than any of them except Purple Cow, which had much higher prices

My entire set of golf clubs came from Goodwill.

King Cobra irons, Big Bertha woods, Callaway putter. $25.

I bought a full set (2I-LW) of Ping Eye 2 Black Dots the next day at the same place for $25.

Traded the Pings for a set of three Cleveland wedges and $200.

Went out and bought a bag for $100.

It wasn't until I bought my new driver last year that I had more money invested INSIDE the bag than the actual bag itself.

I'll go periodically. I try to find cheap pottery or china to blow up at the gun range.

I'll go once in a blue moon for DVDs for the kids. Really don't have the patience to sift thru racks for the really good scores. I think the goodwill by my house must monitor Craigslist for the value of some things. I was looking for a two channel stereo receiver for my patio/outside area, and they were charging 40-50 bucks. Was hoping to get one for 10-20 bucks. Picked up a new one from radio shack for a hundred.

I am a regular on shopgoodwill.com. I have found numerous antique books for incredibly cheap. I bought a complete series of rare 1923 books for less than $1 per book. The oldest book I found was from 1856 in decent condition for under $5. I also bought a $1,500 clock for only $40. It is an auction like ebay but with far, far fewer people bidding.

I don't donate to goodwill or support goodwill in anyway. They are a fake charity and their 501c needs to be pulled.

i actually have a friend that goes to goodwill for me, and buys me clothes. it fricking rocks, as I hate doing it but she loves it. she does it for all of our friend group. Charges a 10-15% markup. I got some brand new designer jeans for $10.

"designer jeans"?

I only shop resale unless I am forced to buy new due to some situation. I used to shop at goodwill, until I learned that all profits go to the owner/CEO, after expenses.

I have gotten som really good buys resale that I wouldn't dream of buying resale.

Glad to hear you got a good haul.

My first buy at Goodwill was about 24 years ago. I needed a formal and went into shock when I saw retail prices $600+. Found a taffeta ball gown, sort of Scarlett O'Hara, for $12. Alterations were about $25. I was hooked from then on. My husband is an attorney an I'm an RN. We are very comfortably retired and I believe thrift had a lot to do with allowing us to have the retirement we wanted.

I go all the time here in colorado but the stores do get picked over pretty good and I only find good stuff here and there. They have a ton of arcs up here and they kick goodwills arse.

I find a ton of Patagonia stuff and I sell a lot of it on ebay. I sold a fleece I found for $5 at arc for $60 on ebay.
