I believe they are banned as well. My favorite bars did it voluntarily and they are both better for it. How difficult is it to go outside?

I would estimate 1 out of every 3 people sitting at a table gambling is smoking overall.

Look, that is Harrahs estimate and I'm just passing on what other casinos have been experiencing.

sure but you have to look at the substitution effect. Are you going to NOLA to gamble or are you going to nola to party and maybe hit the casino? I would bet that for NOLA its a lot people just coming to party, and in the process hit the casinos.

I bet they lose some of the locals business though, can you smoke at the casinos in MS?

I think you can smoke in bilioxi. Been a few years since I was there though.

Big thing is time is money too. If smokers have to take a 10-15 minute break to get up and leave the casino to smoke, casino is gonna lose a lot of action over time.

I wanted to, but I didn't feel like driving to New Orleans just to smoke in a bar one last time.

Goodbye civil liberty. It was nice while it lasted.

It sucks when government mandated, I agree. If the owners of an establishment do it voluntarily I have no problem.

The biggest problem will be figuring out which women poke.

Those of you applauding this have been trained well by the nanny state.

Why aren't yall up in arms about the fact that bars can't allow people with guns in? Guns are perfectly legal to carry but the govt mandates that bars not allow them. Where have Yall been with this issue?

Harrahs is a unique situation because they essentially have a monopoly as the only casino in New Orleans proper. Their business will not suffer significantly because people do not have much of a substitute. The treasure chest and Boomtown are not substitutes.

However, Harrah's was one of the key targets of the smoking ban as to benefit its employees that had no other choice of casinos to work at in New Orleans.

I'm really worried for Ms. Mae's. How will it ever keep up its persona?

Ms Mae's has already been losing it's customer base because service industry folks are moving out of the surrounding neighborhoods, so this might be the nail in the coffin.

Imagine they'll try to make up the losses by tightening up the slot machines.

Smokers are a bunch of whiners - get your asses outside and enjoy the humidity, you stinky frickers.

I'm all for this and can't believe it took this long.

Smoking is every bit your right but once it gets into public it takes on a whole other issue.

It affects everyone around it including the one smoking.

Business will be fine and all will be normal once this is the normal.
