We’re writing to provide you with some clarity on a recent Wink service disruption that affected your home between the hours of 12:40pm ET and 11:00pm ET on April 18th.

Due to a security measure that was initially put in place to protect you and your family, your Wink Hub lost its connection to the internet for an extended period of time.

This service disruption was completely preventable and fairly embarrassing. We failed to make an update to a security measure that was expiring. Because it was not updated, it therefore locked down your Hub’s access to the server.

Others were not so lucky?? Wtf does that even mean?

And why are you just now sending this to me today when this happened 11 days ago??

Early adoption always runs this risk. I prefer tech to be refined prior to the time it gets to me. Which is why I prefer Apple. This happens less often to them it seems.

I'm one of the not-so-lucky group. Had the yellow light this weekend, but I had had my hub uplugged while moving furniture so I thought it was my issue and found out by seeing a random tweet on it. Initially the only fix was to mail in the hub. They came up with a fix last night if the user is tech savy enough to play with DNS addresses. Fixed mine this way.

A really good reason that I am only adding products to my ecosystem that are compatible with multiple controllers.

There was some kinda of loophole in the $50.00 off offer too. Apparently they got burned on that. People were ordering more than they were supposed to be able to.

They sent a new email out saying that it can be fixed yourself with some router settings. I'm going to research before changing anything lest I make my whole network less secure, but I'll give you an update later on.

It's ridiculous that they put out a generic coupon code for $50 thinking that it wouldn't get out in the open. I think they're sending a code out for each email you have linked to the hub, though, so you could get multiple codes per household.

I got the email saying to send in my hub, then got the 2nd email with diy instructions. I haven't done it yet. Yesterday when I opened the wink app I could not see any of my devices. Today when I open it I see everything again. my hub software version is 0.33.0. I have a message on the app saying the hub is updating. I'll have to check the lights on the hub when I get home tonight.

That version is really old. Months behind. The fix I ran yesterday brought mine to 0.86.0.

You don't change security at all. Just modify the DNS addresses, reboot the hub and let it update. Once done, you set the DNS back to original values. It's not a permanent change.

Did you use the $50 offer? I tried and it would only give me a $25 credit, so I just got 2 more bulbs.

I am seeing $50 off, but am unsure about what to get.

CAD, the reviews are mixed on the TAPT light switch. Do you have any experience? If not, what do you use?
