Caldwell is a blast. Great juice, too.

Have been out there several times and have 2 that really stand out,

Tres Saboras is a must, small and awesome, we played horse shoes and did a picnic lunch there, got the full tour from the owners and were encouraged to pick any of the fresh fruit around the property to try.

That and Frank Family are my two favorites, Frank family has awesome wines.

Frank Family makes fantastic wines IMO. Their reserves are all excellent. We have a few bottles of their reserve cab, which is great. We had a bottle of their reserve pinot and chardonnay recently at celebration meals and they were both even better than I remembered.

Palmaz Vineyard

This. Best money I spent in Napa.

Also try Artesa.

Raymond wines are very good. You can find them at World Market.
Sterling has a nice winery and tasting room.

Sterling is a must see IMO - The wine is OK, but the winery has a gondola taking you up a hill to enjoy the views while tasting.

limo is the way to go. you'll be drinking all day. plus if you have a flexible itinerary, they'll offer some good suggestions.

Be sure to hit up Oakville grocery for lunch, it's also a really neat place to pick up artisan jams, preserves, sauces, cheeses, etc... Really neat place. On your way back from Napa to San Fran, be sure to go to Muir Woods for a little hiking. It's one of the most sublime places I've ever been. Go on a weekday when it's not crowded.

+1

One of my favorite things to do is pick up a bunch of various meats, cheeses, bread, spread etc., and having lunch at one of the wineries. Folie et deux (maker of menage' et trois)has a neat little garden/picnic area, and they don't charge anything for you to have lunch there.

For good tasting room experiences, along with good wine, I would list these:

*Frank Family (Calistoga)
*Spring Mountain Vineyards (see if you can get the tour of their wine cave)
*PlumpJack
*Cliff Lede

Jarvis is the coolest tour IMO. Go to Shafer for the best wines. Reservations required for both.

Wanted to try both of these, but I heard the Shafer tasting does not include Hillside, which is by far their best wine. Did you get to try Hillside when you tasted there?

The Hillside Select is included in the tasting. The tasting is $55 but absolutely worth it.
