Photogs, tell me your thoughts on this camera for use by a casual outdoor photographer.

I've only read good things about the camera, and good reviews on YouTube. It'd be my choice for cameras in that price range.

I've had very limited experience with last year's model (a5000) and it was pretty great. Best I've seen without going full DSLR. So if the newer one is the same or better, it would get my recommendation (with the caveat that I have very little to compare it to, as I'm not a photographer).

Good camera in it's price range. Uses the same sensor as some Nikon and Pentax cameras. I looked at this one before buying my Pentax K-3.

Why did you choose the Pentax?

I had Pentax lenses for one.

It's also weather sealed, and considered a semi pro camera. I was fairly accustomed to Pentax gear, owning one before. Also has better lens selection.

Sony used to be Minolta. My first SLR (film) camera was a Minolta - I loved it. I now have a Nikon DSLR, but honestly I am getting sick of dragging all the heavy lenses around with me when I shoot.

Back to Sony - they bought out Minolta's camera division a few years ago and have been cutting edge in producing very good cameras since then. And good lenses. Even their kit lenses are good. Prices, too. I have no reason to think it would be different for a Sony A6000.

It is mirrorless. Some of the DSLR purists think this is a problem. Some film SLR purists used to think digital cameras were a problem. I was one of them. I was wrong.

Mirrorless. I think it is an interesting concept. Am very tempted to get one, just because. If I ever do, I'll get it from Amazon. Better prices. Go for it. A review.

Sony makes very good cameras packed with features. No doubt about it. I'm holding off on the mirror-less technology for a bit though. Mirror-less is lighter, and can make as good a quality image but isn't as versatile and doesn't have nearly the lens options, yet.

I have one and have no complaints. I like that I can use old manual lenses. I've picked up a number of lenses from pawn shops and ebay for as low as $5. The Sony 55-210 lens takes great pictures at my kids' sporting events. The camera has fast auto focus and frames per second. The next lens I plan to purchase will be an ultra wide angle for landscapes. I've read that the A6000 is good for astrophotography. May try that after I get the uwa lens.
