I was watching a Grantland show with Jalen Rose last night and he stated emphatically that Love and Rondo would go to the Lakers this summer. It seemed like he knew something.

Anyways, you think this will happen and if so, who do the Cavs spend that money on? If I were them, I would go get DeAndre Jordan.

I agree with him.

If the Cavs make the Finals this year, there won't be a better basketball situation for Love to go run for. Why the hell would any good player go play for the Lakers right now? They're a disaster, and Love/Rondo alone won't fix that.

I think so... Cleveland just doesn't seem like a good fit for him for some reason.

His numbers fell off insanely, maybe it was being the best on a bad team I dunno.

Unless playoff Rondo rears its head, why would you count on him as a star?

I think love and rondo would do really well together. Their games compliment each other.

I doubt the Mavs let Rondo go. They are more likely to let Monta walk IMO.

You do wonder what it would be like if that team was healthier though.

That should go over well with Mr. Bryant! If he thinks the chemistry in Cleveland was bad...yikes!

Well if that's the case he should've just kept his mouth shut, sucked it up and stayed in Minnesota to continue to inflate his numbers until he hit free agency.

I know you are more in tuned with them than I am. Why do you say that? As far as production, the two haven't even really been close, right? And as an opposing team, Ihave no fear of Rondo anymore. Ellis can still go off.

Is it about $$ ?

I'd honestly more worried about keeping JR Smith than Love. I think losing Smith would be a bigger impact.

No one has answered who they would spend that money on. I said DeAndre because he's a free agent, but really I think they should add a ton of quality depth. Each year, Lebron will need more rest during the season. Those guys like Marion, Mike Miller, etc. just don't matter as much as what people expected.

I agree with keeping JR Smith.

Pick up Love/Rondo. Get Kobe back. Get Randle back. Pick up a high first rounder most likely.

Then add in all the factors that usually make the Lakers an attractive destination. Love is also from California.

If you are only talking about scoring then sure, in some ways Monta is ahead of Rondo.

But as he has been with the team longer Rondo is fitting in much more and the offense has been far more efficient. His jump shot, FTs, ability to set up Mavs in the right places, defense etc have all noticeably improved. He is even driving and scoring enough to now make defenders actually have to think about more than simply where he is trying to pass.

The problem with Monta is he can be a bit of a ball stopper and too often he seems to break from the offense to do his own thing. While this can lead to some huge scoring outbursts it can also lead to 5/20 nights where the team has no shot to win b/c he is either turning it over or taking bad shots all the while getting more and more pissed. When Monta goes bad, its BAD. On top of the poor shots and TOs he'll freeze out other players and make it impossible for them to get in rhythm. The number of times I've seen him completely ignore an open Dirk or Parsons to take an off balance deep two is maddening. It doesn't help that he has seemingly been butthurt about the money Parsons is getting paid.

Rondo is also a FAR better defender than Monta and I'd go so far to say that the main reason the Mavs have had trouble at defending the 3 the last couple of years is mainly b/c Monta drifts too much on defense looking for steals. He ends up doing half assed help D that doesn't really help and leaves his man open in the corners b/c he's too small to fight through screens or simply wandered too far to recover. (think Terry giving up that 3 to Chalmers in the Finals only its multiple times a game)

This is not to say I don't want Monta back. I love that he plays his arse off and leaves it all on the floor. If he was playing in the 90s and early 2000s people would look at him as a similar player to Iverson. Unfortunately he is playing in a league that has moved away from that type of play and for whatever reason he does not draw near the amount of fouls on his drives that he probably should (likely due to refs flat not liking his attitude). If he would be willing to be a 6th man it would do a lot of good for the Mavs. I highly doubt his ego will allow that though.

With Ray Felton finally healthy and in shape its been a bit surprising to see how much better the offense runs when the Mavs pair Rondo with a legit 3 point threat at SG. It's not that Felton is a better player than Monta at all. It's just that he seems to play within his game and the offense slightly better and those few extra inches he spaces the floor end up being huge for everyone involved.

If the Mavs can get a bigger SG that can hit 3s and occasionally drive I think they are fine letting Monta go. I'm sure they'd be happy to keep him but it's very possible he is going to want so much money that they will look elsewhere at SG.

Of course I also would not be surprised if they keep Rondo, Tyson, and Monta and just try to work some continuity in before Dirk is completely done. In fact, that's the most likely scenario. I just think that if it comes down to choosing between an undersized 30 year old SG that relies on his athleticism vs a PG with crazy passing skills and ultra long arms who has shown the willingness to work on his faults, they are going to go with the PG.

Rondo used to be a better defender. I'm willing to say Rondo is a league average defender at this point in his career due to injuries.

Playoff/Big Game Rondo was something to behold, I just don't think that player exists anymore.

-Play with LeBron and have him passive-aggressively motivate you via his Twitter account

-Have a geriatric Kobe call you a "fricking pussy" while baiting you to shoot a three during the one practice a month he participates

He's still pretty good and can make life hell for players with his length. He's for sure better than Monta on D though. Like I said, I love Monta's tenacity but the dude is easily the weakest Mavs defender and I'm including JJ Barea in that. (at least he tries to stay in front of his man instead of floating for help D and when he gambles its for charges instead of steals)
