A semitruck carrying honeybees scattered hundreds of hives when it overturned on a highway north of Seattle.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Travis Shearer says the truck had just merged onto Interstate 5 around 3:30 a.m. Friday when it tipped on its side, dumping its load of 448 hives.

The company that owns the insects sent beekeepers to recover as many as possible. But the bees became more active as the sun rose and the weather warmed, and Seattle television stations reported that firefighters sprayed a layer of foam on some of the boxes, killing the bees for safety.

I have honey bees all over my yard. I got stung on my foot and the same day, just about an hour later, my 4 y.o. got stung on the leg.

Weird is that you don't see quite as many bees as you used to anymore. Not even close.

I have a conspiracy guy in the office that likes to talk about the lack or shortage of bees as a result of the chemicals used on everything.

I hope he is wrong. Without bees we would be screwed.

That company is fricked. Bees are a serious high-dollar item to transport. Would hate to see that cargo claim.

Pesticides are decimating the bee colonies.

I had honeybees get behind the bricks of my house near the chimney... had to call a beekeeper (who told me the above about the pesticides) from out in the country to come get them out. Well, I could have called Terminex and let them kill them, but why do that? Only thing he didn't do was replace the bricks he removed to get to the hive.

Wasps, on the other hand.... they get sprayed with 47,000 dielectric breakdown volts of great vengeance. Whatever that dielectric stuff means.

This isn't a conspiracy. Its true and if it continues it'll be a very, very bad thing.

That guy in your office is correct. Garden products like Seven-Dust kill bees as well as the insects you're trying to get rid of. You also have "gardeners" spraying to get rid of bees, because they consider them to be a hazard. Little do they know, no bees = no veggies.

What kind of gardener thinks a honeybee is a hazard? The kind you put in quote marks when talk about them? Those should be called dumbasses, not gardeners.
