Feminists' latest target: Champagne spraying Formula 1 World Champion driver

Celebrating with a champagne party on the podium is one of the longest standing traditions of F1 racing, but a picture from Lewis Hamilton's most recent celebration at the Chinese Grand Prix has the practice – and the driver participating in it – under fire. In the photo (and many others also taken), the hostess being sprayed by the champagne doesn't appear to be enjoying it, and that has led a number of groups like Object, an anti-sexism organization, to call for an apology from Hamilton and an end to the practice.

It reminds the SJWs how degrading facials are.

They are so fricking mad right now.

She looks to be smiling? She's Asian so who knows if she is squinting or not

That's one human spraying another human with champagne. I just find it very rude if she didn't want it. The sexism came from whoever told her to wear that skin tight dress and prance around on stage.

I knew this was going to happen when I saw the picture.
A still shot in time. What happened after? Did she smile and lick her lips?

Yeah its a split second shot so you'd have to see how she reacted right after to know the context. If she wasn't cool with it, it's a dick move no matter what.

It's a bit of a dick move if she didn't want to be sprayed with champagne. I'd say the same if it was a guy, so I don't get where this is sexist. Just potentially dickish.
Of course reading this I'm surprised somebody hasn't thrown a fit over the milk at the Indy 500 between PETA and feminazis.

I'd be surprised if he apologized. If he does, they should take some points away from him

Mark Webber did it better.

For people that don't follow Formula One, here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. Champagne is sprayed on the podium at every race no matter what.
Some exceptions:
- At the Bahrain GP they spray a non-alcoholic champagne since alcohol is banned in that country.
- As a mark of respect when a race driver is hurt during a race. The most recent occurrence was last year's Japanese GP where Jules Bianchi was seriously hurt after running into a crane that was clearing out a previous crashed car in wet conditions. The drivers didn't open the bottles after that race. The mood was quite somber.
2. Anyone that has ever seen an F1 race knows not to hang around on the podium when the presentation ceremony is over. If you are smart and don't want to get wet, you leave the stage as soon as you can so that the drivers can do their thing.
3. The only time when the drivers don't spay champagne on folks on the podium is at the Monaco Grand Prix. That is because the people presenting the trophy there are royalty. You are not allowed to spray champagne on the king and queen. Everywhere else anybody that sticks around on the podium once the trophies are handed out are free game.
4. I saw this race live and saw Hamilton spray this Asian chick. It was fleeting. It wasn't like he lingered on and made it uncomfortable for her. Once he was done with her he turned around and sprayed his team-mate Rosberg. As far as I could tell she just turned to another girl standing next to her and snickered when it was over.

Lewis Hamilton is such a boss. Love that guy.

I watched the race live. That is one frame of video which actually shows her smiling. And it's not degrading to women. Everyone sprays everyone during Formula 1 podium celebrations.
But I'm sure Bernie will cave, like he always does. It's how we got the latest Formula, after all.

sounds pretty cool to be able to attend some of these races...I didn't know you could get close enough to the podium to get sprayed with champagne after the race...

Exactly. And somehow I think she knew that going in--you're not going to make it to the podium of a F1 race without knowing about the traditional victory celebration.
I also don't get how anyone can think it's sexist when EVERYONE gets sprayed with champagne.
