Nothing groundbreaking.

quote:

1. Re-Sign Alexis Ajinca and Omer Asik

These guys are both extremely valuable but in totally opposite ways. Ajinca is the offensively gifted scorer who fills up the stat sheet, while Asik is the garbage man who plays hard-nosed D and hits the glass like Manny Pacquiao hits the bag.

And that's why the Pels should avoid approaching this dilemma as an either-or situation. The goal should be to re-up with both.

quote:

2. Add a Three-and-D Wing

Almost every elite team has what's become known as a three-and-D player—a wing who can knock down three-pointers and play strong perimeter defense.

The Pelicans, instead, had three D-rated forwards who overachieved this year.

Luke Babbitt, Dante Cunningham (who is actually more of a power forward) and Pondexter worked their tails off and provided the team with occasional bursts. They're fine as role players but certainly not stars.

Pondexter is signed through 2017-18 at a reasonable yearly price of $3 million. But with Babbitt and Cunningham both headed for free agency this summer, the Pels should try to pick up another—and perhaps better—three-and-D wing.

Talks about wing options

quote:

Khris Middleton, who will be a restricted free agent, would be a great fit in New Orleans. The Pels will have to really push the Bucks or convince Middleton that NOLA—where he'll suit up with a potential basketball legend in AD—is the place for him.

But even if the youngster stays home or simply goes elsewhere, the Pelicans have options—and lots of 'em.

Danny Green
Marco Belinelli
DeMarre Carol
Wilson Chandler

This guy on D, sooo goood, on the very shortlist for best perimeter defenders in the NBA.

He's also shooting soemthing like 40% from 3.

I've been on and off the Wilson Chandler train so many times. If we aren't able to find a big move, I could live with him for the MLE if he gets cut. The way Pondexter has played we really need a longer guy to time share the position with him and he does fit that requirement.

Meaning he's probably played his way out of MLE money, so we don't have a shot unless we make a move like dumping Gordon.

Another name to maybe add to the list, I didn't realize Luol Deng had a player option. He does, and he said he's not thinking about it until Miami's season is over, which means he is thinking about it and to me the future looks mediocre in Miami.

Both of these guys are great defenders. I'd prefer Carol, but it would be sick to get either.

Chandler is the only guy on that list that could be had for the MLE, imo. Not sure if he'd go for that, as he's currently making more.

ETA: I'd be happy with any of Green, Carroll, Middleton or Chandler.

He's got a team option, not a player option, so if he's on the market it won't be by his own choice. And for 3 and D wings this is probably as plentiful as the supply will ever get. I think Chandler is far enough down the list that he might not have much choice unless he wants to take less than MLE money for 1 year in hopes of a better deal in 2016.

I'm not saying he can't have infiltrated us, but this looks like a BR writer that's been assigned the Pelicans beat. No real ties to the team or LSU.

I didn't look into the particulars, but I don't really see why Denver would decline a cheapish option (6ish), I guess they could want to free up money to make a bigger offer for another player or something.

He's been on the trading block literally since he signed his current deal with no takers at the price they want. So they obviously value him. But Denver's hard to read. Are they ready to blow it up? They fired Shaw and there were lots of rumors of everyone being gone from Ty Lawson to the GM.

I'm a big fan of Middleton, but seeing how he is restricted, is there any way the Bucks would let him get away?
