How would you guys feel about Randy Gregory at 13, and Marcus Peters at 31? I know the saints shy away from character issues, but both are day one starters in my opinion.

Randy Gregory at 13? Hell yes. Gregory is a top 3 player in this draft and some think he's the best player in the draft. Too hard to pass him up at 13.

Peters at 31? Pass. For the first time in a while, we don't really need to take a CB that early. Signing Browner helped out a lot. We will need to take a CB at some point, but we have bigger needs to address with out first few picks. And if we do take a CB early, I would prefer to take Waynes or Kevin Johnson over Peters. But, like I said, we have a lot of needs elsewhere and don't really need to go CB early in the draft.

I think we need a long term fix at the other corner position. Browner is only short term, and jean baptiste didn't really see the field(I realize he was someone that needed work). Peters is a ball hawk and a shut down corner. Everyone doubted Joe Haden and Tyrann Mathieu could be mature enough to be in the NFL, but thus far have been proven wrong. With two seasoned vets at the corner position I think peters could be a great pickup at 31 if he is there. As far as Gregory goes it would be mind blowing if we passed on such an elite talent. Leadership in the locker room isn't just on the players and Payton needs to take some responsibility for that too. Also, I would trade up for Marcus Peters. we could package Bush or a 3rd round. Bush would be ideal though. The eagles are a prime candidate if Peters falls to 20. Trade spots with the Eagles and give them bush(They are in need of safety help), and they can still draft a viable corner for Chip Kelly at 31.

I hope we don't go cornerback in the 1st round. Browner should be good for at least another 2 years. We can use a high pick next year on a cornerback. One of those 3rd round picks should be high enough. Plenty of corners in that draft position.

Gregory worries me. Not with his off the field issues, but his play. He's an athletic freak, but so was Dion Jordan......

Speaking of arguments, that's why he got kicked off the team; he blew up at the head coach.
Yep, that sounds like Payton's type of guy!
Graham did that crap last year and I think it was a major reason he's calling Seattle home.

so you want not just one but two character issue players with both of our first round picks? you must not have been paying attention. if they do this, then they need to be ran out of town along with all of our other talented players they shipped out for being character issues.

Up vote on that!

I think I could stomach Gregory. He has a weed problem but something tells me the weed policy in the NFL is going get weakened even more in the near future.

How is the NFL going to selectively enforce a policy which is in contradiction to state law (11 states and Washington D.C. that are home to over half of the NFL teams now have some form of legalized marijuana use laws)?

As for Peters, he's a train wreck and I wouldn't touch him....even as an UDFA.

I agree. Once more states start to legalize it...the penalty should drop severely and maybe to the point where it's accepted(in due time).

Lets just get DGB in the second and totally screw the team, character wise. One bad character guy can be changed normally but to many and they will feed off of each other and could cause serious problems.

he has an attitude problem. that's the only way I can characterize someone who knows he is about to get tested yet blows bushes anyways. it tells me he has no respect for authority, which is a concern on a team.

I still would be ok with him being drafted though, because it could be something he can mature out of. only ones who will know that are those who have interviewed him.

Peters and Dorial better not come anywhere near this team though. They are problems on a much deeper and problematic level. They undermine every precedent we have just set this offseason. If we traded Graham for either one of these two fools, I want a refund

That's a good point...that #31 represents what we got for Graham. Wouldn't that be a kick in the arse if we unloaded Graham because of behavior issues only to take on a guy like Peters! This FO and Payton will get their asses kicked by the media.

That's just dumb. We have our starting CBs for the next few years in Lewis and Browner.

And your argument about TM and Haden is pointless as well. TM went 3rd round and Haden never got into major trouble in college. Never was suspended or anything. He tested positive for adderall when he was already in the NFL. But he was a lock to be a top 2 CB in th draft. Peters isn't, even without the off the field issues.

There's no need to waste a 1st RD pick on Peters and there's def no reason to trade up for him. We can get a solid CB in the 3rd round anyways.

So is every athletic freak pass rusher going to be Dion Jordan for the rest of eternity?

Nicks, Anthony Hargrove, Shockey, etc. The question the FO must answer in evaluation is whether any off field issues are blips on the road of maturity that happen with most 18-22 year olds or if they are from entrenched character traits. I actually think a good personality evaluator can tell this clearer than we can predict their gametime production.

Past record is not necessarily an indicator of the future. (ON and off the field, right?!).
