I agree with you tigerskin. It wasn't about numbers as much as his style. They all counted as a block, but seemed like Shaq's were more a pwning of the shooter by how far he would slap them, and the flamboyant nature.

1986-1992 was a GLORIOUS time to be an LSU basketball fan.

I believe LSU still has 3 of the top 4 or 5 largest basketball attendances ever for a regular season game and they all occurred from 89-92 in the Dome (all wins too). They had the record for the largest basketball attendance ever for many years. They sold 60,000+ tickets for all three. It's hard to believe.

Yeah, regardless of the teams' end results, 1990-92 had to be the best time to be an LSU basketball fan. Some epic games at PMAC.

I was fortunate to be able to go to practices during this time. The whole team/staff was really incredible to be around.
I wished they could've done more, but they really were a big family.
It's one of those things where you don't realize how cool it is until it's over.
Nice to see such a well-done piece on LSU.

Anthony Wilson Nakita Wilson

Yeah. I knew that.

Thanks.

And, it was Nikita Wilson. Knew they had the same last name. Memory getting foggy.

I do remember Anthony Wilson hitting from the baseline corner all the time. And, Derrick Taylor would drain shots from the top of the key. If there had been a 3 point shot in 1986, with Redden from the wing, that team would have been even better.

Thanks. I went back and corrected it.

I knew their names. Just had some kind of memory breakdown.

Anthony Wilson banking in the buzzer beater against Memphis (State) will never be forgotten.

That was such an amazing tournament run.

Was it Georgia Tech and John Salley/Mark Price where Ricky Blanton had the put back at the buzzer?

Beat Purdue, Memphis St., Georgia Tech, and then Kentucky. Lead Louisville at the half before Pervis Ellison took over.

That is how I remember it. I could be confusing games, though.

Damn, really wish I had been around for the basketball run"s".

Got the baseball and football.

Hopefully Johnny can put something together. I want the hat trick.

Man I really hate that I missed that LSU/Tenn game

My most favorite moment. The celebration after. William Bedford threw the ball to the top of the Assembly Center. Dana Kirk was out of his mind. The Kentucky win was awesome. That whole team was boss. Too bad Nikita Wilson couldn't make grades.

We went to the Purple/Gold scrimmage game his first year. Everyone in town (almost) had heard all about this new huge guy who had come to play for LSU.

We were sitting behind the goal when, early on, the new kid threw down a thunderous dunk.

A group of older white ladies was sitting in front of us. One lady quickly scanned her program and announced, "Number 33. Sha-Kweel O'Neal. He's good!"

I've been calling him Sha-Kweel ever since.

Shaq needs to take better care of himself. You can already see he's having trouble getting around. Too many of these guys are using canes by the time they're 50.

I was at LSU then and it was awesome. It was a terrible time for LSU football and a fun time for LSU basketball.

Festus, everything you say about Brown off the court is true, but back then I wanted a basketball coach, not Mother Thersa. He's an incredible human being, no doubt about that. I remember a former player from back then telling me that Dale would bail Cookie Man out of jail time & time again when he returned to NY & that he was the father most of the players back then never had. So in that regards, he's legit. I just hated losing like we did so many times.
