Have you not seen enough of this show to know that everything fricking matters?
It's not filler

Yeah, and that's why I think the OP is concerned with the lack of action
With all of the moving parts (so much so that the book has to have a character dictionary in the back) nothing is filler. All of the scenes explained where a character was at emotionally or just literally where they were...or they were setting up the story to unfold. I didn't even find any of it to be "hey, remember this happened"

The sprawl in the universe has become downright unwieldy, and this type of episode is critical in keeping things moving with a scope so vast.
That doesn't make it very good though. I certainly think they've reached a point where bigger isn't necessarily better. Every time I think it's time to reach the outer bounds and start closing in towards the long march to a conclusion, things just get more far-flung.

It was a setup episode. Relax. When you watch past seasons in binges, you will see similar episodes in terms of pace. They introduced the sparrows, set up the separation between Jaime and Cersi, and Varys's schemes.

Game of Thrones is my favorite show of all time. However, there was something subpar about last night's episode

All that happened in the first episode was they found some dogs and a kid was climbing and fell. This show will suck.

It was a good episode but not a great one, so what? Not ever episode is gonna be great. People just like to complain.

they're trying too hard to connect with different communities, last night was a good one for the buttsex crowd
i thought that the script was lame and and the scenes felt rushed. they tried to do too much and, as usual in any weak got episode, they spent too much time in easteros.

I'm not really sure what was filler. Everything that was shown was set up for the entire season.
Every action has a ripple effect and this episode's ripples are far reaching

You'll be sucking it back off next week.

this is the golden era of tv, with so many options (quality options) you can't find time for it all...and GoT is the highest quality product on TV in almost every single regard. why was this the worst episode ever? well, he still hasn't really explained it at all. Ok, so there's too many people and things going on...yeah, just like the previous 3 seasons.
quote:not at all, let's talk about it. that's fun, that's why people are on this board, but I felt everything was setting up the plot, and you don't have to do that with a big bang (I know he didn't say that, but what other conclusions can you draw?)
Some people are so sensitive
jon - with the night's watch back behind the wall, and wildlings not banging on the door there is a power vacuum and 2 people who want him dead are scheming to fill it. They owe their lives to stannis, but stannis isn't the kind of guy to understand their position. He's the king, and if you don't acknowledge that then frick you, you die.
stannis - is now playing to take the north.
dany - dealing with insurgency and compromise (this did start with a bang if you ask me)
cersei - since they didn't spell it out where this is going, I won't say anything but they're dealing with a new reality without dear old dad, and they're now going to have enemies everywhere (or so they think)
tyrion - I would say his life has changed, and now he is heading to see dany and pledge his loyalty and westerosi wisdom to her cause
sansa - she's going to have a front row seat to the political maneuverings of someone who plays the best hand of political poker (and since she is, we will too) Sansa is again a fish out of water character. It is through her we learned about how king's landing works.
Brienne - her mission is now almost pointless and now she and podrick are on an aimless mission, they now are looking for purpose
all of this shite was less reflection on what happened, and more about understanding the aftermath and the new realities the characters face...considering how many characters there are to do this for almost everyone (noticeable absences: arya, bran, boltons) in 1 episode...I thought it was very brief and left us wanting more
just MO, I thought last night was exactly what it should have been.

quote:Or that he thought it was the worst episode of the series. He clearly loves the series, just didn't like that episode. He gave his opinion and whatshisface turned that into "some people just love to complain."
typically when you declare that this is the WORST episode EVER made of the 41 episodes that have aired, you're going to sound like a complainer
I'm starting to think there is no way to give a negative opinion with eliciting "you're just a complainer" responses.
quote:I mean, that's a very gentle criticism and he was blasted for it.
Game of Thrones is my favorite show of all time. However, there was something subpar about last night's episode. I consider it the worst episode so far(this coming from a person who's rewatched earlier seasons multiple times). I thought the episode was all over the place. It felt like a episode filler and I hope this isn't an indication of the direction of the show.

I don't care...complain away and let's discuss. I love complaining about disappointing things (because really what else can you do?) I believe the OP wanted a bit more excitement and adventure. Who wouldn't? If I had to put last night's episode into a brief analogy,
seasons 3 and 4 were an explosion, now everyone who is alive is waking up with their ears ringing and disoriented and finding themselves in a new situation with barely any time to reflect on what just happened.
I loved it. it entertained me, intrigued me and left me with anticipation all while continuing to maintain the elements that has made it the most popular show on tv (or not on tv I guess)
