Taking it Friday for the first ( and hopefully the last) time. They changed a lot of stuff with this new edition but any advice is better than none at all I figure.

Did you take a prep course or study on your own?

Just be confident in what you know. Don't stress.

I took a Kaplan prep course and have been studying for the past 3 months so I feel like I got a handle on the material. I have a shite GPA 2.7 cause I screwed around way too much my first 2 years but it's been steadily inc. The equivalent scores (new scoring system) on the practice tests have ranged from 29-37. So I'm either gonna shite the bed or blow it out the water....

Just study. Hard. And if you just happen to have, say, a 3-keg crawfish boil/beer fest combo waiting for you at home that starts well before your test lets out when you're finished, try not to rush the last section (Bio back then. Unsure of what it is since the change) to go get to it.

Also, bring a snack. You've probably never taken a test like this before, and something small, even a candy bar, can make a big difference in your mind's ability to process during that 3rd and 4th hour. It's much more mentally draining than a practice exam.

Sounds a little personal...

With a 2.7 GPA you better have an incredible resume and score very well on the MCAT. I'm talking 11+ in each section. The odds are already stacked against you with that low of a GPA.

As for the test, I took it last spring and thought it was very similar to the practice tests. It's a bitch for sure and the length of it is taxing, so eat before even though you probably won't feel like you need to.

Not to add fuel to the fire but with that GPA you are going to have to rock the test. Even then, you may be headed to the tropics.

Don't even bother applying to any MD schools in the states, you'll be wasting your money. Only DO schools and schools in the Caribbean.

There are a handful of good reasons why this may not be true. If he's in MS or non-traditional for any number of reasons, he'll still have a hard time, but it's not necessarily a waste. But if I were him, I'd apply to MD and DO at the same time. And learn a lot about what DOs do, because they'll ask on your interviews. And you'll look like a fool if you don't know.

Not true. However, you are going to have to score 33+ to get into an MD program in the States with that GPA. If you score 33 or better and you will get in at LSU-NO, LSU-S, UMC-Jxn, U of South Alabama or UT - Memphis.

Edit: Iphone mis-type

Don't be intimidated if you prepared well, a lot of it is gonna be educated guesses and using the test against itself no matter how smart you are and how hard you studied. Gonna be tough with that GPA but hey man, good luck!
