The young talent is impressive, but it's unraveling a bit of late. Is it good enough to make it to Omaha?

The bats are good enough to get us to Omaha, but they have to show up most every game.

This team is hurting with Latz being out and then Marshall bailing on us last second. Guys like Bain and Godfrey wouldnt be forced into weekend starting roles like they have been.

This weekend was especially nailbiting because we didnt have Lange to lean on. So it's like we were pitching our #2, #4 and #5 options.

Weird Sunday night to start this thread. The pitching staff finally had a pretty good weekend and it was without Lange. This thread is a week or two late.

our bullpen has been off and on at times this year. I think some guys are starting to emerge as our good arms. Person is good in spots, bugg is good in spots, Stallings is good just has an occasional off game, Newman has been great, Reynolds is getting better.

Our Pen is def the weakest spot of our team, but they will make big plays from time to time and impress.

Que?

We just won a series without the ace, specifically because of our pitching.

Johnny Wholestaff won't punch our ticket to Omaha. I like our depth, but worry about relying upon our freshman.

What a random, poorly-timed and inaccurate thread.

If Lange had pitched Saturday, we would have won 1-0?

LSU hitting was somewhat of a problem this weekend--I know Auburn out hit us all three games. Our pitching was pretty good..

Not talking about this weekend. Rather, is our young staff reliable enough to get us to Omaha? We have talent and depth, but we lack a proven shut down starter, not to mention a steady no. 2 pitcher.

I feel like we actually took a step forward this weekend from our pen. Bugg and person were great. Newman was great. We are figuring out who we can trust

I totally agree. Our pen struggled a couple weeks ago but have made big strides since. Lange is a stud #1, Poche a solid #2, and I think we found a Sunday starter with Bain. Even if one of our starters struggle, we have the arms and hitting to string out a win.

I'm guessing you worry a lot about a lot of things.

I don't think our bullpen is weak. It's just that we have a lot of guys this year, and CPM is giving most of them chances. As we get to money time, CPM will focus more on the proven commodities, putting them in their best situations. When that happens our bullpen performance will improve.

In fact, I'm not so sure that wasn't what happened this weekend. CPM uncharacteristically left Newman in to finish game 1. And earlier in the season he probably wouldn't have given seven innings to Bugg and Person.

I think this staff is setting up nicely for the playoffs. We have two excellent starters, one of whom is dominant; we have a third starter, in Bain, who is steady as long as he doesn't have to face another team's ace; we have Bugg, Reynolds, and Newman in middle relief; and we have Person and Stallings to handle 8 and 9.

What we really could use is Bouman to return to form, so we have a quality lefty, and Godfrey to get it back together. I have my doubts about both, though. I think Godfrey needs an offseason to settle in.

I agree with most of yall in that the bullpen is getting it together over the last week, they hit a pretty big low shitting the bed multiple times in bama. Let's just see if they can hold it.

Though I will finally give some credit to CPM for leaving the hot hand in. After seeing Newman hurl the rest of the Friday game, I can sort of see why he wasted stallings the other week. Guaranteed the rant lost their mind on that one including myself, but realistically we have no true closer. Bugg, Person, Stallings and Newman are all on the same level as far as late inning relief. I will temper my emotions from now on if CPM decides to burn someone for the weekend if they have a hot hand and the game is on the line.
