Anyone here do any work with reclaimed wood? I like woodworking but have only worked with what I can get a my local lumber yard. The only out of the ordinary wood I've ever worked with was rough cut cypress. I've built a farmhouse table and other small misc projects but would like to find some reclaimed wood for some other projects I have in mind.

Do you just ride around hoping to see a building being torn down?

Yup Craigslist.. if they tearing it down they going to be selling it. Some pallets are made of oak.

Drive around NOLA and look for a dumpster in front of an oh old house. I saw two dudes doing it this weekend, funny you made a thread about it.

I use a lot of old pallets. Fortunately, I have hundreds to choose from where I work. We also check CL for wood and also drive around looking for wood and old fence boards.

There's a guy in Lafayette that has a huge warehouse full of reclaimed cypress. He buys old homes and barns that are being torn down. Sells for about $3.75 b/ft.

Yamaha dealerships get their bikes and boat motors in mahogany crates.
