WW is so underrated. Just a brilliant game, nearly as good as OoT.

You like the story? The Story was bland, but so is every Zelda. People play Zelda for the story?

So even though the graphics are terrible compared to current day consoles, these are worth playing for the first time? Should I just start with the original Zelda and work up from there?

If you're gonna start a Zelda game start with OOT. Of course the graphics are out-dated, but it still doesn't look bad.

Wind Waker is a great Zelda game, don't let the graphics discourage you. The cartoon look actually worked very well.

The visuals, even on the GC version, still hold up very well today. The cell shaded graphics most certainly look cartoony, but in no way are they "terrible."

I enjoyed WW. If I were you, I would just go finish TP and play WW later. Even though you haven't played it in awhile, its not hard to figure out where/what you're supposed to be doing.

The graphics are techinically better because its in HD, but the art style is different.

I didn't play Wind Waker on the Gamecube because of the art style and after playing on the Wii U I regret that decision. The game is great and looks great once you appreciate the art style

Eh to each his own. OoT is a GOAT game. WW isn't THAT good. But in the pantheon of Zelda games it's nearly as good.
Top 5 maybe: OoT, ALttP, LotZ, WW, Awakening

I disagree on this big time. I agree that LotZ stories are often extremely shallow, meant to get people from dungeon to dungeon, rinse, repeat. But WW is different. It's told like a storybook, it feels like one, and most importantly, it looks like one. The simple presentation and kind of unique charm of the graphics all wrap up to make it feel way more alive than other games. And if you're into the myth of Zelda, it's awesome as a follow-up to OoT.

The point of a great game should not be if it's graphics are good or not. Graphics should not hold you back from playing a great game.

It's the same deal I run into with people not wanting to use a nutrition supplement because it tastes bad. Who the frick cares what it tastes like if it's a great product that gets the job done.

Wind Waker has a very quick pace the majority of the way through, but it does get tedious near the end. It's pretty easy too. I didn't die once.

Wind Waker is the worst of the console Zelda games in my opinion.

So it's the worst Zelda game of all time to you?

OoT is arguably the greatest game of all time. I agree. Wind Waker is second on my list of favorite Zelda games though

1) OoT
2) Wind Waker
3) Twilight Princess
4) A Link to the Past
5) Skyward Sword

I just can't jive with people who say Ocarina of Time is the greatest game ever made. Maybe if I grew up with an N64 and had never played an open ended (action) RPG, I could relate to this feeling, but I first played Ocarina of Time in like 2001 because I had been playing Dynasty Warriors 3 and wanted to play another game where I could ride a horse.

Before that I had already played Baldur's Gate and Shenmue. Not long afterwards, I would play Morrowind and Nights of the Old Republic.

I didn't say it outright was. You could make the argument it is though. The storyline is very captivating. That's why people love it so much. As much as I love The Elder Scrolls series, it lacks in the story telling aspect.

It's probably timing. And open ended RPG's had been around. But OoT's footprints are all over Morrowind, Shenmue, etc. Even Mass Effect owes something to OoT.

Ocarina was revolutionary and many games used their blueprint. That's why people say it.

But...all of these games came out after Ocarina of Time. It would obviously lack some of the impact it had on those who played it closer to release.

What, in your opinion, is the greatest game ever made?

Wind Waker HD is gorgeous on the WiiU. It's very easy to immerse yourself in the world they created. Kind of like you're living in a cartoon.

That was the whole point of my OP. Is the game play worth it, DESPITE the graphics. And regardless of HD, etc., my preference is TP graphics over WW.

It's sort of like if someone had only played MLB the Show and asked if they should go back and play RBI Baseball. I would say that they probably wouldn't enjoy it, even though it's my favorite baseball game of all time. But that's based a lot of sentimental value. However, if someone had only played the most recent Madden NFL game and asked about Tecmo Super Bowl, I'd tell them to definitely play it because the game play is so fun, despite the poorer graphics.

Sorry to ruffle some feathers.

That made me remember something. TSB has the notorious NES flicker that occurs when too many sprites are on the screen.

There's a section of LoZ where they put WAY too many enemies in one particular room, it slows the game down incredibly. It would be much, much more difficult at regular speed. They did it on purpose, exploited the shortcomings of the hardware to enhance the gameplay. Always thought that was kind of cool.
