So I'm going up to Boston for a Braves game this June and we've decided to just make it a week long trip instead.

Basically we're leaving Sunday and staying in DC for the night.

Places I know we'll be going to Boston, NYC, Cape Cod, Niagara Falls, and DC

Anybody got any recommendations?

Avoid DC unless you want to be sitting in traffic all day

Scenery or city?

Scenery- Mt. Washington, New Hampshire, anywhere in VT or Maine, Acadia National Park, Niagra Falls

City, you already know them...

Leave the car in DC and take the train from DC to Boston. Rent a car in Boston if you need one.

Gave up on Hawaii?

If you stop in Philly on the way to NYC, get a cheesesteak, see the liberty bell, independence hall, comcast building, philly art museum where rocky ran up, etc.

For Buffalo, I can ask my friend who lives there for some recommendations besides the usual anchor bar or duffs for wings. There are several casinos at Niagara on both sides. The waterfront in Buffalo is real nice in the summer, plenty of festivals so you may be able to time it right for I think it's the polish festival

I would hit pennsylvania for a day or so...

Philadelphia is one of the places that I enjoyed the most. Stay near independence park and just walking within a few blocks, you see all kinds of historic and cool stuff like the liberty bell, continental congress, etc...I mean, you can be ten feet from chairs and desk that George Washington actually sat in...on top of all of the history, you can run up the steps that Rocky ran up in the movie!...

also, I would spend a day around lancaster, pennsylvania...the amish culture is fascinating as hell...and they have some damn fine food...

Mystic Seaport in Connecticut is very interesting and there's a whaling museum in New Bedford, Mass. Plymouth Rock is a bit disappointing. Eat lots of lobster. We lived just up the street from the Lobster Pound on Manomet Beach (outside of Plymouth). You could call and order what size lobster you wanted and pick it up already steamed in a brown paper bag. You can spend several days in Boston. Tour Old Ironsides.

Skip DC and NYC, enjoy Boston and the rest. As somebody already said, really check out N.H. and Vermont, it's damn beautiful. You will want to go back in the early fall to see it again.

Where is your origin? Are you driving there?

That's 5 cities and does leave much time for anything. Niigara falls is pretty lame after about 20 minutes seeing water fall and not worth the drive from the city, IMO. The area is a dump of low rent hotels and casinos.

Nantucket is good for at least an overnighter, get down to Woods Hole ( I know folks there, toured the facility), Cape Cod.

Boston is the most walkable major US city. Get busy researching that online.

We did something similar last summer. Niagra is a must, but only on the Canadian side. We then drove to Lake Placid for the night. Took the ferry across Lake Champlain into Vermont for covered bridges and crap. Then drove through New Hampshire on the Kancamagus Highway which is fn awsome. Spent the night in Portland Maine then down to Conneticut for a few days.

I did my honeymoon at Cape Cod. It is underwhelming. Spend that time driving up into southern Maine. Go to the LL Bean store.

Niagara Falls is gonna be way off your route and will eat up a lot of time. I would toss that too.

I could make all kinds of suggestions for DC, but it depends on who is in your travelling party (kids for example?), your interests (art, history, scenery, etc) and how much of Sunday and Monday you want to spend here. If a drive-through has any appeal, consider doing a nighttime dive through the city then staying north of the city that night. Lots of the monuments are open at night and seeing the Capitol, WH, and major monuments at night is pretty impressive. Sunday night is about the least crowded part of the week in DC and staying in MD puts you against traffic on Monday morning.

Really watch your time and plan it out (to a degree). Cape Cod you can spend at least 2 days (1 day was not enough for me) there are light house you can go up and plently to see, and there is a place where you can eat on the beach and just park on the beach, Boston you would need at least 2 days if not more. NYC yeah more than a day, Niagara Falls you will need to be on the Canada Side (do not waste your time on the US side).

Boston if you love Italian food there are many to choose from but just go into "Little Italy" and find a place.

For Boston if you like the history side do part of the Freedom Trail and if you want more view out side the city look at the Mohawk Trail Massachusetts.

You will defently want to go back in the Fall.

If you were going up into Maine I would say Acadia National Park would be worth every minute.

If you need some more help just let me know.
