Your son/daughter graduates from college with honors and comes home. After a few weeks of job searching and a few interviews, they are only able to land a minimum wage job. What do you tell them?

I advise them to take the job and continue to look for jobs in their field while saving what they can from their minimum wage job.

I obviously don't charge them rent or for food but expect them to pay their own bills such as phone, car insurance, etc.

It all depends on their major but I wouldn't want them to settle

Take the job and keep searching for whatever they're looking for. Is this really that hard?

Not really.

I can understand wanting to be encouraging though if your kid is becoming disillusioned. However, job hunting for a few weeks isn't bad. Try going months. Most companies take a few weeks to even get back to candidates for interviews

Eh, I don't believe all they can get is a minimum wage job. It may not be exactly what they want to do, but i'm sure neither is the minimum wage job.

Baby boomers cannot fathom this scenario and are ill-equipped to deal with it.

Nobody wants to hire someone who is currently unemployed.

Establish a work history, prove you can do the basics such as show up on time and follow instruction and look for better opportunities.

Funny how much shoveling horse shite can teach you about the world. (Speaking from experience)
