Good for them, hopefully it gets more people talking about their new club.

Wait, there's an MLS team in Orlando that goes by Orlando City? I don't think I've ever heard anyone call Orlando, Orlando City

It's a Europeanized name, a la Manchester United, Real Madrid.

That's the point I'm getting at. I know it's a European thing. The MLS tries way to hard to be European by adding things like "City", "FC", and "Real" to their names.
For the record I have nothing against soccer. I just think trying so hard to make the MLS European with the names can turn off the common American viewer.
Nobody in the U.S. calls Orlando, Orlando City. Calling it Orlando City is an unnecessary European push.

Orlando City sounds a billion times better than say, the Orlando freaking Magic.

Agreed. Soccer turns me off anyway, but "Orlando City" just doesn't sound right. Not a bash on those who do enjoy soccer, only on the Orlando City thing...

I agree that the Magic is a terrible mascot name. Still doesn't make the name Orlando City any better.
ETA: I have nothing against soccer. I'm not one of those people that blindly bash the sport and say it's gay. This is just something that has always bothered me about the MLS.

It depends on the name in question. "_____ United" is dumb because in Europe those names came from multiple clubs in a city joining forces. Hence the "United" part.
Real ______ is Spanish for Royal. I'm okay with that if it was like Houston or a place with a lot of Spanish speakers. It's dumb for a team in Salt Lake City (I guess it keeps with their tradition of having teams with names that don't fit their region, though)
__________ FC/SC, FC________, Sporting ______, or ________ City is always acceptable. If a team was established in say 2004 you could call them _______ 04 and that would be cool. Also they should try doing more names relative to the neighborhoods the stadium is, things like that. Or just the name of the city and nothing else.

No one's changing the channel because of the addition of 'City.'

You're right the people who are fans of soccer don't care about the name and will watch anyway. Just like people who are fans of basketball don't care that the Magic is a terrible mascot name and will watch anyways.
Soccer is already fighting an uphill battle in the U.S. for viewership and fans. Something as simple as "Amercanizeing" the names of the MLS teams could help some with popularity.
American Non-soccer fans are already turned off from the sport when American soccer fans use European names for things like calling the field a pitch, calling uniforms kits, calling cleats boots, etc..

MLS is.
Soccer in general though is more watched than hockey, golf, tennis and growing every year.

If someone is so closed minded that they won't watch just because a name isn't "American" enough then I am fine with them not watching soccer.
