What hp tractor would you recommend for say a 10' bush hog? 15'?

What would be the max a 50-60 hp tractor could handle?

Depends on what type of bush hog really.

Most 10' bush hog MFGs will say sixty HP for lift type and fifty HP for a pull type.

Yea but in real world applications I understand that to be too much for the tractor.

To put more specifics into the question. Keeping 180 acres clipped without burning a shil load of diesel and time id think 15' and 85-100 hp tractor would be the tool for the job

True.

I think 85 - 100 wouldn't have any issues with that, even up in them rolling hills of the Felicianas!

Go to the tractor salesman and tell him how many acres you need to clip. Then tell him how long you want to spend doing it. I promise you he will sell you the proper equipment.

60 hp for the 10' and 90 hp for the 15'.

We have a Kubota M900 92 hp tractor and it pulls the shite out of a 15' bat wing bush hog.

This is damn close to what we have...

I don't doubt it will pull it and drive the blades.

I just wonder what the difference in revolutions per minute is between the two going the same speed. Or how much harder it runs one tractor compared to the other.

I was thinking Kubota model number meaning a 5100 would be like a 55 hp tractor.

The 5100 Jonh Deere is like a 100 hp isn't it?

4copy

My BIL wants to get a M6800 4x4 but that would limit us to 8' bushhog. Id rather an old 4x2 JD 4020 or close to it for what we need it for

It'll pull the wheels off of a lawn cart.

Used to run a 12' batwing bushog with a 45 horse john Deere. It would do it but thats all it wanted.

Conversely, the 135hp massy would run a 15' like it wasn't even there through a popcorn tree farm.

It's solid, mainly pull it with our 150hp allis chalmers, cuts anything.
