What makes you think this before he's even taken a snap in the NFL? Hell he's not even on a roster yet.

It did raise some eyebrows but I don't think it's a knock on his work ethic. I'm sure most NFL players have to get back in shape for a new season.

Well he had to get in shape for the combine, not a good sign of his work ethics

out of shape in what context? The guy was a two-sport athlete and played/trained all year round. It was rare to see him fatigued or anything like that and he's pretty sneakily athletic for his size. Guy was in better shape than 98% of America, he just has one of those bodies where he'll always look a little...cushiony.
And even if he was in "bad shape", to me it shows good work ethic that he got in better shape. What would have been a bad sign is if he showed up to all the off-season events and workouts STILL "out of shape". The fact that he worked his arse off, literally, to me shows determination and an understanding of what needs to get done.

I think most people don't know that there's a difference between being shredded and being fit. He doesn't look fat. He doesn't appear to have manboobs. He has fat around the midsection. It doesn't mean he's not fit.

I know. It's called a ceiling for a reason. He's still a prospect. Now if it were week 9 or the end of next season, and he wasn't playing up to expectations of where he'd be at that point, then I could see the logic in that statement.

real convenient timing to get all in shape like you've never been prolly since your freshman yr

players with high football IQ's don't throw 18 INTS in 13 games against meh competition.
I think he'll be alright. Superstar, nah.

The dude weighed in at 248 and dropped down 231 before the combine. I'd hardly call that overweight & lazy. But some people need a certain narrative for their argument to have legs.

Completely agree. Having excess fat does not mean you aren't in shape.

They were one of the top passing offenses in the country and Dalvin Cook didn't get touches until later in the season to help him out.
I think he will be as good as he wants to be. We just have to see how bad he wants it.

248 at the young age of 21 when it's supposed to be easy to keep weight vs being 29.
He certainly has a ways to go to prove his off field dedication to success and all that great stuff. Talk is cheap. I don't think he'll be a bust but maybe cam newtonish more so than Andrew luck

Big Ben weighed in at 241 at the combine
I fail to see where his weight at 6'4" is an issue....
Does he look pudgy? Yes but the dude is an NFL QB not a body builder, how many QB's have ripped physiques?

ETA: I mean, really. Break this criticism down. He got lazy and ate like shite between the Oregon loss and the time to get back in shape. It's not an uncommon thing with athletes.

At this point, just say you don't like the kid and you are rooting for him to fail. It sure seems like you are splitting hairs over trivial bullshite.
