A few years ago I was at an art exhibit on Royal Street in the Quarter... I was standing on the sidewalk with a glass of wine.. the shop and the sidewalk were both overcrowded... so I looked for traffic coming down the street before I stepped backwards onto the street down from the curb. And a cyclist broadsided me from the other direction, taking us both down, and sending my wine up into the air.

Now THAT guy I wanted to kill.

Cyclists are supposed to be considered cars/trucks for the purposes of observing traffic laws. Yet they want all the rights of a pedestrian when it suits them and all the rights of a car when it suits them. frick cyclists.

And as a side note, why do they have to wear skin tight, ugly-as-shite outfits to go on a damn bike ride? What's up with that? If you're qualifying for a time trial at the Tour de France, sure. But why are these weekend douches spending $200 on riding suits?

With all the traffic laws they ignore, they seem to have a death wish.

Jeremy Clarkson and James May had some good videos on bicycle safety.

That might be true in most states, but they seem to have far greater liberties than cars and trucks in this one.

This close incident was a lesson for both of us, I guess. Even though the law is stupid and very dangerous for him, I need to signal then pause in the street, even if it means pissing off cars behind me, to make sure I don't wipe out some idiot who's operating within a stupid law.

Only if I had seen him. I didn't. It's not something to expect.

I sometimes commute to work on my bike. Today was one of those days. Some jackass on Capital Heights came rolling through a stop sign, and would have hit me if I hadnt forseen him doing it. I yelled hey to let him know I was there, and oh course he stops his car and stares me down. Happens to me about once a week.

Beat his arse for almost damaging your vehicle.

Take the chain off his bike and strangle him a little.

Unlike most people here I LIKE bicycle readers. I think more of us should be. But the law here is stupid, and when I told the guy "you don't do things like that!" out of horror I was correct.

frick him and the Schwinn he rode in on! I had one of these dudes kill my passenger side door when I let a guy out at a red light on campus one time.
Boulder CO is the worst place for this shite -- they think they own the roads. Had one give me the finger for turning right on red (legal). He was oh so close to learning about a country boy arse whooping in the rocky mountain state

Seems to be a trend. The first time I was hit by a bicyclist, I was at a crosswalk at LSU. The jackass came full speed in the wrong direction.

The second and third time I was hit by a bicyclist, I was on a sidewalk.

It's supposedly legal but stupid as shite. Following the rules of the road can a car do that? I doubt it.

wow man......pretty effed up

I dunno how a "law" can contradict common sense and what's good for other drivers.

I'd like to see exactly how the "law" reads on that
