Im not just using the results. That's part of the odds when you allows GD to swing away.. If he(Greg D) can't get the job done, you trust one of your 3 best hitters to do it. Runner will still be in scoring position. Hale happened to come through. His theory was proven right. Ball just happened to hit Bregman's foot.

3 chances to get a hit. Or a bunt and two chances to just get the ball out of the infield with them in (for at least one out). When you are playing for just a single run, the percentages (I wish I could find them) say go with the latter.
You are trying to say that his gamble would have paid off. And I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing that (regardless of outcome), the right call is to bunt. He knows that. He did it an inning later in the almost the exact same situation... We got a run out of it.

C'mon ell, people were still posting about it this morning. And you started this thread knowing full well the kind of response it was going to get. I don't care if people keep talking about it. I just think it's gotten excessive.

I have seen a bunch of Deichmann in high school. He's not slow, but he is nowhere near Laird speed.

best case, he singles and ends game.
2nd best case, he pulls the ball, either a sac fly or a FC. 1st & 3rd 1 out
That's part of the reason why he was allowed to swing away. Lefty hitter with speed. This happens in baseball all the time late in a game

He got the guy to 3Rd with 2 outs instead of 1 out. assuming they intentionally walk laird, you have the best hitter on the team with a guy on 3rd and less than 2 outs

With 2 outs. I don't think I have to explain how many more ways there are to score from 3rd with less than 2 outs than there are with 2 outs.
You're arguing for the sake of arguing and making this very simple situation complicated. It's very simple, bunt the runners over and you have Laird and Bregman up to get one in. It's really the only move.

Mainieri is right in that a lot of decisions in baseball are very close to 50/50 decisions...yet fans will criticize when it doesn't go your way.

Don't care about that day, just know his times from other days. Deichman is not faster than laird
