My 1950's Gillette Fatboy adjustable is probably the best razor I own. It was pricey but it was just about in mint condition.

I use a Merkur 37C Slant. I love it, but I've heard that the Razorock Stealth Slant makes it seem like a weed wacker. Unfortunately, those are never in stock. But I really hope to scoop one up or possiple a Razorock Baby Smooth. Whichever I can get my hands on.

What are the benefits to the slant vs. the "regular"?

How much difference does the razor make? I've been trying different blades, just got a pack of feathers i like best, but use a razor from art of shaving or someplace. Nothing special but thought about getting something better if it makes any difference.

Also, anybody have any tricks for getting them thru security in a carry on? They confiscate mine about 50% of the time. I make it thru just often enough to keep trying it.

Blades are Feather. Astra are nice too.

Derbys are good for me in my Edwin Jagger or any other heavy razor.

Slant cuts on a slant. A lot of people find they are easier on the skin. My neck never has any razor burn, which is a miracle for me. I have the world's most sensitive skin.

If you bought it at Art of Shaving, it's probably good, but you way overpaid. That place is such a ripoff.

I Got a safety razor for Christmas and I'm almost out of blades. Does anyone have any suggestions on brand and location to buy more.

Interesting. So, do they cut as close? I have a regular Merkur and find I have trouble getting down to a zero grain on parts of my neck. But I could definitely use less razor burn.

Being as your options are Tiffe's or PJ's I would most likely try e-bay. I picked up a pack of 100 Astra's for 12 bucks recently.

Tryablade.com

$2 shipping whether you buy 2 blades or 200. You can buy individual blades.

Feather, Astra, Crystal, gillette yellow, persona med prep, persona blues, derby, Kai (super sharp supposedly and $$$)

Those are all mentioned in various websites. And tryablade lets you make your own sample pack.

I use the RazoRock slant as my day to day, but I also have a Futur that I play with on occasion. Be warned though, even on its lowest setting it is more aggressive than the Edwin Jaeger DE89s.great razor though. I still have my first DE89 on the shelf that I will sometimes break out with Persona Lab Blue blades when I am feeling nostalgic. It took a lot of practice, but I can get baby butt smooth shaves on all around now with each of them.

Gillette 7 o'clock blades work really well for me in the Futur, while I use feathers in the slant.

I have started making the transition to straight razor shaving too. I've done eight or nine so far this year, and they are getting better and better.

Slants cut way closer if used right. There is more of the blade exposed, and the slant causes it to slice the whiskers with less scraping on your face. But, with more blade exposed, there is definitely more room for "error." And if you make that "error," the bathroom will look like the Bates Motel. Have your alum block on ready.

My father-in-law got me in to DE shaving a few years ago when he gave me a starter set with a cheap DE razor. After I got the hang of it and told him I was hooked he started giving me different soaps, shave creams, and blades. He collects this stuff like crazy. He'll buy tons and tons of stuff.

For Christmas last year he gave me a Gillette Super Speed that was made in 1967, the year I was born. It was still in its original packaging. It's so cool to be shaving the way my father, and grandfather used to shave, with a razor as old as I am.

I just use an electric razor. I don't see the point in using shaving cream and a razor just to jack up my face with all sorts of cuts.

My thick, luxurious beard is very coarse. Electric razors cut halfway through the whisker and then yank it the rest of the way out. Makes my face break out really bad. I have to shave manually.

I liked the Personna Platinum blades when I started, as well as the plain old Merkurs that came with my razor. I use Feathers now, for the most part. Buy one of those sampler packs to see what you like. They're relatively cheap on Amazon.
