$2.99 a month with Dollarshaveclub.com.It baffles me how people still havent figured this out yet. If you are spending more than $3 a month on shaving, you are spending too much.

Buy one of those sampler packs to see what you like. They're relatively cheap on Amazon.

They're even cheaper from Tryablade.com and you can choose the blades you want to try. The last order I made, I belive I ended up with about 60 blades and it was about $10 with shipping.

You can buy a DE razor for about $40-50 that will last you literally until you die and you son inherits it. Blades for it will be well under a dollar a month.

And those razors you get from DSC for the $3/month price are crap.

I will have to look into this before I order another batch. Thanks.

I'm using new razors, now - a Merkur 180 (23C) was my first and it serves as a travel razor now. My main razor is a EJ DE89.

Combined with Yellow (Russian) 7 O'Clocks, that gives me about the best shave for my face.

EJ de89L.
Best part of my day... every other day.
I really like playing with the combination of preshave, cream/soap, aftershave.

Blades - Astra, Feather, W.sword, Personna.

I might look into getting a OC Parker. I'm probably not going to get into the vintage world... From what I've seen... I think it's a deep, dark, black hole that tends to spiral out of control.

I have used the same Schick Quattro and THE SAME BLADE since 2011. Warm water, no shaving cream.

This is how little I shave my face

I probably don't use 5 blades a month, but let's say I do. I then spend approximately 50 cents per month.

What blows my mind is that people pay Dollar Shave Club to mail them Dorco razors at an upcharge when they're widely available online.

I think I'm paying about $0.23 a blade, but I don't use 2 blades per month.

Edwin Jagger faux ivory handle with Derby blades. Been using both for about 6 years now and have never looked back. I buy the Derby blades on Amazon for about 10 cents each when you order 100 at a time.

What is a good soap to be using? Any preshave oil?

No one can tell you the "right" soap to you. You can take suggestions then find what feels and smells best for your individual skin type.

I don't use a pre-shave oil, but I like to use a lime-oil based glycerin soap. Just rub it against the grain on my wet, hydrated face, then splash some more water on to make it slick, then I start face lathering with my loaded brush.

Right now I am using Phoenix Artesian Accoutrements Bay Rum scent soap, but I also really enjoy Maggard's soaps as well as Mike's soaps.

I think I have about 15 different soaps in the cabinet that I just pick and choose from.

I used to use a Merkur 7 days a week. Now using it maybe 1-2 times a week.

Moved up to the Solingen Dovo straight razor. Grow a pair and try one. haha

I just have the one that came with my kit, but I'm not a big fan of it or the brush. Think I'm gonna load up on a new brush and a few different soaps

Ain't nobody got time for that.

I might try the Feather Artist, though - for special occasions.

I used to use a straight razor. You'll actually get less Knicks using one but if you frick up its a no shite cut. Plus it takes about twice as long.

The Feather Artist Club is a straight razor, but with disposable blaces - they have "training wheels" (guards) you can put on them to keep you from cutting yourself too bad while you get used to the actual technique. It's intriguing because it offers the "best of both worlds" - straight razor precision, without all the oiling, grinding, sharpening, honing, stropping, etc. And by one of the most respected manufacturers in the business.

But, fairly expensive when compared to DE shaving.

Yeah that's what I had. Different brand though. Its called a shavette or somethin . You just snap a regular DE blade and insert it. Didn't have training wheels though but just as cheap as DE shaving.

Those aren't straight razors, they are shavettes. shavettes are, generally speaking, more harsh than stragit razors, but the Feather Artist Club razors aren't as bad as they have proprietary blades, as opposed to most shavettes that used snapped in half DE blades.

They look like they would be more entry level than true straight razors, but a lot of people who have tried both say that they are actually require more skill to get a clean shave without irritation or cuts.

Fair enough - that's why I didn't call them "shavettes" - but your explanation is more thorough and certainly more accurate. I took the feather party line (although I'm not a customer) - they sell it as "straight razor shaving" with the convenience of their (proprietary) disposable blades.

I get good enough results with DE to not even remotely want to try a shavette (I think that's going backwards - just my humble opinion) - straight razor shaving is probably the epitome, but the time required, particularly the initial expense and maintenance/sharpening of the blades and what not - all of that keeps me away.

Would consider Artist Club, though, again - just to try it and, perhaps for special occasions.
