Damn he's had an amazing career with 12 Final Four appearances (and counting), plus 1,016 wins. Jeez. 68 years old though, I wonder how much longer he will try to add to those totals.

I'm sure the same thing was said when Wooden had 12 Final Four appearances, but will anyone be able to catch Coach K and Wooden?

Some with a chance:
Izzo (60 years old) - 7 final fours (494 wins)
Pitino (62 years old) - 7 final fours (721 wins)
Williams (64 years old) - 7 final fours (750 wins)
Calipari (56 years old) - 4 final fours (593 wins)
Donovan (49 years old) - 4 final fours (502 wins)

Really the only ones with a shot currently.

What amazes me is that I (like most others) think of Duke as one of the blue blood teams of college basketball. But they didn't really gain that reputation until Coach K showed up.

LINK

Check out Duke basketball before and after Coach K took over (1980). That guy built that program into one of the power prpgrams.

Calipari won't make it because his Final Fours keep getting vacated.

Williams and Pitino will have a hard time because they're only a few years younger than Coach K and by the time they're 68, K will have added to his totals.

Donovan has the best chance.

12th Final Four appearance for Coach K.
Been a head basketball coach for 40 years and has made the NCAAT 31 times.. So he's made the Final Four in 30% of his seasons coached. Making the Final Four 3 times every decade, meh.. The longevity of his career is more impressive than anything.

He's only been a coach half the time Coach K has.

It's unlikely. People forget how accomplished Coach K was at a young age. He had seven final four appearances by age 47. That's the type of pace a coach needs to set to make 12+ final four appearances because that rate's bound to decrease as a coach gets older. The only coach who would have had a shot is Brad Stevens if he had stayed at college and moved on to a blue blood program. However, he's probably going to be with the Celtics for quite a while so I don't see Coach K's record being in jeopardy anytime soon.

Sorry you disagree with me

Roy Williams made 5 final fours between 2002 and 2009 and he's regularly talked about as being overrated. Doesn't go both ways.

He's coached in 4 different decades and won championships in 3 of them. He's changed with the times very well and hasn't shown any sign of slowing down. His teams are going to win 25 games at a bare minimum each year.

They weren't the "Duke" that we know, but they went to the NCAA Championship in the late 70's with Mike Gminski and some other dudes. I think that they lost to Kentucky. That was only a few years before Coach K.

Agreed.

Only coach I see coming close to him in terms of NCAAT success is Izzo but no one will have the longevity (especially in regards to staying with one team for over 30 years.)

They were the runner up two years before coach K arrived and had success in 60 so he didnt take over a nonexistent program. It doesn't take away from what he has accomplished though which beats Wooden He is tGOAT.

1. Coach K
2. Cal
3. Saban

For salary.

That's for college. Not all sports.
