Was playing soccer last Monday, and took a knee directly to the chest at full force. And starting to THINK it's a fracture in my ribs. For the first few days, breathing was tough...now, I mainly feel it when I lift anything or twist a certain way. And sneezing is a sum-bitch...it's pretty painful.

If indeed it is a fracture or break. Is there anything, other than time, that will a doctor will tell me about the healing process?

Nothing to be done but tough it out. Took me a good 6 weeks to not feel it anymore.

I've cracked a few. Sucks bad when it hurts to breathe. Heals with time. Try not to laugh. Or reach across your body.

Cracked a rib coughing with pnemonia (stupid underwire bra) and it took FOREVER to heal. Mostly because I was constantly coughing. Was not a fun time for me.

Did this in a HS baseball game my Sr. season. All you can do is suck it up. I was playing again a couple days later.

Yeah, these were pretty much the responses I was expecting to get, and actually hoping to get. After it happened, it took me a few minutes, but was able to make it back on the field...I guess I'm going to continue trying to play through the pain.

Bad idea?

Don't play through the pain.

You could puncture a lung.

Go to a doctor if your employer needs proof.

I cracked a rib playing softball a few years ago. Three days later I played in a tournament. I loaded up on Aleve, but it still hurt like heck when I swung the bat. When adrenaline kicks in your body can do amazing things.

I seem to crack my ribs every 3 years or so. Last time it happened I went to the navy doc who told me it's probably not cracked. Many times it's just the cartilage your ribs are attached to become inflamed from the impact. Take some naproxen and vicitan and walk it off.

Yes. Sucks severely. Doctor will tell you to go home and take some Tylenol.

There's nothing a doctor can do...don't move, laugh, breathe... I broke 4 and I was miserable until they healed up.

I have broken a total of 12 of them over the past three years - I have a lung disease and I break them from coughing. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done to help the healing process. Try not to lift, twist or bend.

My doctor mentioned thatthere is a new shot that you can get that really helps with the pain. Fortunately I have not broken a rib since having heard of this new shot. FTR the only pain med that ever helped to alleviated my pain is dilaudid but it will have you shitting coke cans after a day or so.

No, the OT has assured the op that there is nothing a doctor can do. You must be mistaken.

OP, a doctor will confirm your hunch and TD confirmed diagnosis. And he/she will give you something for the pain if it's really bad.

They suck. Nothing at all you can do but rest and try to be comfortable. Had one after a car wreck.
