If I win our bracket challenge in the office, I'm going to use the money to buy a new driver. My current driver is really old, Callaway Hyper X, and I'm long overdue for an upgrade.

What are your opinions on this crop of new drivers? Pros/Cons?

TIA

They go too slow in the left lane.

I looked at several today but I'm not interested in buying one that allows you to adjust for your slice or draw. How would anyone ever learn how to hit the ball correctly if they just adjust the head to fit their swing?

My Golf Spy is an unbiased testing service. They are conducting their 2015 tests, but haven't released findings yet:

Golf WRX is also a pretty independant source, but they do have an affiliation with Golf Digest, that that FWIW:

These exist? To whom do I give my money?

Thanks for the links.

If Kentucky blows this game, this thread is worthless anyway. Lol

I do appreciate the info though.

I would never buy a brand new driver that is the current model. Very rarely is there a leap in technology that warrants paying new season prices on drivers when you can save 100 by buying a year old driver still brand new.

As far as what drivers to buy, all the big boys have good ones out. The Ping G30 is pretty badass and easy to hit (for a driver), The Titleist 91x is always a nice driver, Callaway has the Big Bertha back, Nike has the Vapor and Vapor Flex, Cobra has the Fly-Z or something. All of them are good drivers, pick one that fits your swing and looks that you want and go with that.

Spend some extra money on getting a shaft that is pseudo fitted to you, that will be the best bang for your money.

You guys remember when Tiger Woods was dominating the tour - BEFORE he signed on with Nike? He played a Titleist 975D AND was consistently bombing the ball past most everyone. I purchased one of these. At the time, the head was considered very large in comparison to other drivers and it had a classic pear shape. Today, it would appear to be very small. I purchased one and learned to use it, but knew from the very first time I hit it that it was a great club. I bet I've spent over $2500 buying drivers of various "flavor of the day" since then, and I always come back to this driver. It has such an incredible set of tuning that I can literally 'feel' the ball compressing and releasing from the face of the club. There is not a lot of forgiveness, which modern drivers give to less skilled players, but oh boy! If I take the time to practice and hone my swing this driver delivers beautiful pure drives that take pressure off my long iron game. When I play regularly, and have the feel for it, it can be easily worked for a push or a pull, a fade or a draw.

My advice? If you have a regular, consistent swing that doesn't break down during a round, keep your current driver. Go online and find you a 975D head and have a pro outfit you with a custom shaft fitted for your swing. You'll spend far less and probably end up with one of the best performing clubs you ever hit.

Look at the old Cobra steel heads. Those 14 degree 3 wood heads were in tons of pro bags. The 9 degree deep face was a bomber and it just felt like a no bull shite rock at the end of a stick but when you hit it the ball exploded off of it.

Serious answer, unless you talk to Larry and get some serious horsepower and torque, you're not gonna get much #Nitro out of anything you buy.

I would start doing deadlifts and playing LaTour if I was you

i picked up the G30 with the stock stiff shaft. can't say I have any complaints yet. I've hit the same cobra driver for about 7years and hit it well, but it was time for an upgrade.
Going to play a couple of rounds this week... think i may leave it as is. I hit the regular pro shaft and liked it too. definitely hitting the ball farther...

I have the G30 and love it. I bought it with the tour stiff shaft but ended up putting an Aldila rip in it instead that seems to fit me better. It is forgiving and long
