Maybe Axl was just jealous that Slash was knockin boots with Traci Lords.

Slight correction; the video was Estranged. But your point remains.

Here's a friend's Axl Rose story I like to re-tell:
His mother was a curmudgeonly history teacher who pulled no punches in speaking her mind. She once saw Axl at an art museum, listening to an audio tour with headphones on. Undeterred, she launched into him with a barrage of pointed questions: How could you do this? And how could your music do that?
Finally, Axl removed his headphones, turned to her, and said loudly in the middle of the museum, "Lady, I don't give a frick what you think" before putting his headphones back on and walking away.

Axl drew up a contract to give give the GnR songwriting rights to him exclusively. Then, threatened to not go out on stage till the others (Duff, Izzy, Slash) signed it.
IIRC, it wasn't songwriting credits, it was rights to the Guns N' Roses name, which is why "Chinese Democracy" was technically a Guns N' Roses album instead of Axl's solo album.
And, to be honest, i'd rather not see a GN'R reunion unless Izzy were involved. He'll always be my favorite Gunner. He was the band's primary songwriter in its early years; he dropped the mic on the biggest band in the world while it was at its zenith; he turned down a shot at Velvet Revolver; he's recorded 11 solo albums since he left GN'R; skipped the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction; he just does whatever the frick he wants, and he's cool as a cucumber.
