Sounds like he at least had some insurance policy in place.

To me it seems like he wrote that trying to convince himself he made the right decision last summer

Probably so. There's still a decent chance he goes in the first round this year though.

Would be absolutely moronic if he didn't. Athletes have huge insurance policies on themselves all the time. In his case, I'd be shocked if he didn't.

Ya I would expect so for sure, but his wording strongly implies it as well.

2-3 worse pitchers went in the first round last year after TJ. But, yeah his life is over because Astros fans are mad.

Will be interesting to see if his UCL can support the TJ procedure, hopefully he recovers.

Having said that suck it Gammons!

Did they have TJ 3.5 months before the draft?

I don't know who would write him a loss of value policy covering his draft position slipping being that he was already literally a #1 pick.

And most other policies cover total disability when you can never play again.

So I don't know if he got paid because of this.

The 9th pick had it 1 month before and got over $3mill

The 18th pick signed for $2.5 then immediately had TJ which was known going in.

The Cubs gave their sixth rounder $1.5 to have TJ

The issue with Aiken is his camp kept trying to assure us he had no issues. They would not admit they had a potential problem and took offense when the Astros called them out on it. The 1 player who had TJ surgery right after the draft was forthcoming about his issue

Astros fans should be mad that they didn't draft Rodon. Their offseason moves indicated that they're not all about prospects anymore and perhaps trying to win (trading good prospects for Gattis). Didn't need to wait 4 -5 years for a high school pitcher if they're trying to improve the Major league team.

Why would an insurance company cover him knowing he had potential problems in his arm?

All of which seem significantly less than 7 million and 5 million.

He'll be fine but all of the people who thought the Astros were fabricating reports, or making it seem worse than it was, look pretty foolish right about now.

Doesn't TJS mean the weak UCL is replaced outright with a hamstring or somesuch?
