Wait, you aren't allowed to bet on any sports when you are an MLB player?

To me it should only matter if he bet on his team, really...right? I mean, who cares if he bets on a Yankees/Red Sox game? He plays for the Marlins.

It looks like it was just on basketball or something. Are they saying that gambling is addictive and it could lead to him betting on baseball?

MLB's going to be thorough here, if its investigators' aggressive actions when probing 2012 game-fixing allegations against Pirates pitcher Jeff Locke are a guide. (As revealed in a bizarre and fascinating story by CIR, Locke had been framed by a small-time handicapper who wanted revenge after the pitcher had blown off the man's brother, a childhood acquaintance.)

Strange that there is precedence for Cosart's defense.

Re: Pete Rose.

Unless you were being sarcastic.

ETA: I hope all of you in this thread are kidding. Betting = verboten.

Wait, what? I'd say 20% of the guys in MiLB bet on sports. It's illegal to bet on all of them? Oops.

Come on man. It's posted in every clubhouse. In English and Spanish.

ETA: Along with the tobacco policy, that everyone follows.

Don't you know how slippery the slope is. You start out small, maybe with some fantasy football. Then you get in a March Madness bracket challenge. Before you know it, you're hundreds of thousands of dollars in the hole, and some shady bookie is telling you he'll knock 10 points of your vig if maybe you go 0-for the Series.

As long as he didn't bet on teams he played for/when he pitched I don't see an issue

Pretty sure it does. I read it once, but I can't really remember. shite, the clubbies are usually the ones organizing everything. We had pools for NASCAR, horse races, NBA finals, CWS. Pretty much anything but pro ball. We love taking money from the players and coaches.

Meanwhile, owners can own racetracks, but that's cool.
