Does anyone have any experience using these fake trees/shrubs to add habitats for fish in small farm ponds? I have a 5 acre pond on our property and was looking to get one or two of these to attract fish towards the bank. Any success storys?

Probably right. But theres i much higher chance of getting hung up on an actual tree than one of these things

I looked at those at BassPro and determined I could make them with plastic drums and irrigation tubing for much less...

I made a couple of these last summer out of some pipe scraps, just because I thought they may last longer than trees. Have caught a few off them.

I have used them several years and they seem to do well. The problem with using trees they decay and fall to the bottom and deplete the oxygen, sort of a mini dead zone.

You can make them for less than $20.

5 gal bucket
Paddle bit
1/2" black pipe … buy by the roll cut in 3' pieces
A little concrete in the bucket

I've made quite a few and they work well

I just made 6 of them last week. Took me maybe 2-3 hours and spent maybe $70-80 total. Would have cost $1200 from bass pro.

I've found that the 1/2" tubing found in the automatic sprinkler section at Home Depot is the best bang for the buck. Bought 500 feet for $35

I once saw a guy that made a sort submersible table that was weighted down. The idea was that it was big flat piece of smooth plastic on top with rounded edges sot hat he could cast to it, drag across without getting hung up, and fish would nail the bait as it fell off the side b/c they were just waiting underneath to ambush stuff.

I have zero doubt in my mind that that'd work, but it's too pricey for me.

Get some free buckets, some quik-Crete, and about 100' of 1/4" pvc and make your own. It's cost you about $30 and you'd have way more habitat. Google image search "crappie tree" or "crappie structure" for visuals. That's what we do around our camp.
