Cat was hit by a car. Owl and possum shared the meal.

Black panther.
Seriously though, a coyote is the correct answer.

A coyote is the least likely possibility.

In Cenla...a pack of devil worshipers
In your case, probably a couple coyotes or dogs that fought over the carcass.

I change my vote. I agree with this.
Ya'll have some different coyotes than I have. A cat is a tough meal for a coyote. Not saying they won't kill them, just that a cat has more available escape routes and is better able to defend itself than a small dog.
This also reminds me of the guy on here claiming that foxes kill deer.

Exactly. A cat, especially an outside cat, is an elusive critter.

a pitbull may have mistaken your cat for a child.

Least likely? Less likely than a snake? Or maybe a rabbit?
I've got it! Sasquatch did it....For a snack.

I would have to go with this also for the sole fact you did not hear the shrinking screams of the cat as it was being torn apart.

This does make sense because the remains of the cat were in the front yard, not far from the road. I have seen plenty of possum around here. Are they strong enough to chew the cat's head off though?

Ok, least likely of everything mentioned in this thread.
If someone mentioned bobcat, bobcat and coyote should be tied for least likely.

Car then eaten by scavengers. Same thing happened to a cat I had in college.
