The problem with ULL, and I have said this for years, is that the athletic facilities are far away from the campus. Part of the fun is the nostalgia of walking the campus on a game day.

I understand what they wanted to do with the athletics campus but I agree with you. Part of what's great about tailgating at LSU is that you're part of the campus. I've often walked through our campus and thought to myself this would be great on a Saturday if the campus streets were lined with people tailgating and a stadium was a short walk away.

Of course we're landlocked on the main campus which is why it made sense to build where they are now but it takes away from the college feel. Tailgating in a bigass parking lot feels like an NFL thing with no character.

it would be nice if they could close off the third level somehow (curtains or tarps) to bring everyone down closer

you know, that's what a lot people say. But when it was suggested on RP, a few of the regulars on the third level did not like that suggestion at all. Go figure.

I think the main campus is only ~125 acres, so there is really no room for the Athletics....what would have been nice is to have the athletics where the Oil Center is located. But if we hadn't gotten the Oil Center started in Lafayette, we would not have a Lafayette, lol.
But yeah, the parking lot around Cajun Field is pretty bad....wish they would add trees, etc. to make it more inviting for tail-gaiting. I think that is part of the Athletic Master Plan

Man, that must've been great.
I went to my very first concert there: 'Wet Willie,' lol. I was but a mere lad still in HS, but we thought they were greatest.
One of the best concerts I went to was the stones in the superdome. But I think the PMAC had some of the best acoustics when I saw the Eagles there, who I really didn't care for much.
Sorry for the nostalgia, and I guess I dated myself, lol

The plan that saw had a shopping center with restaurants/bars, & a hotel, and eventually classrooms across the street (Congress)
It will be nice as hell if they can get the funding together for it.

That's actually part of the University Master plan (separate from athletics).

LINK /

Would love to see it come to fruition. Would go a long way in making the athletics complex feel like more than that

Yep: the plan is to create a mini-entertainment district around the Congress/Cajundome Blvd intersection. It would include a 'PAC' (Performing Arts Center) to replace The Heyman Center (lafayette general would love to get their hands on the s. College property), and liner buildings along congress with pubs, restaurants on the first floors, residential above. Also, a parking tower along the NEZ of cajun field, plus another one behind the Cajundome.....and they will doubling the convention center and adding another hotel in front of the Cajundome.
Since a lot of this would involve private funds, it is more than likely to get started soon.....well, it will be, once the price of oil rises again.
Don't know how legible this will be, but here is the master plan for that part of campus:

Thats the artist rendition I saw along with the article. It would be a great addition to ULL and Laffy as a whole.

shite I feel like you could drop that exact building on campus and it would fit right in.

Yes, that troy building is really nice....but while the Cajundome may be too large, I think 5K is too small. We need to get attendance up....and hopefully the reno will help with that. We sure don't have the $$$ to build a separate building.

Right on! Saw lots of stuff in Blackham in my youth: USL games, Globetrotters, Shrine circus, Holiday on Ice, Oil Show, rodeo with Festus! Check that- circus may have been at mcNaspy.

Not that far from campus

Who was Blackham?

My last year of coaching we played the Perry Stevenson lead Northside Vikings in Blackham and the place was in deplorable shape. Everything was covered in dirt and rust.

Blackham is in far better shape in our memories than it is in reality. why are they playing there now? some sort of nostalgia play?

The Cajuns are playing in the CIT. They're hosting a game but the Dome was already booked by the IceGators.

Yes, and it seems there is already a lot interest from the private sector. Per Steve Oubre (the architect behind River Ranch and the UL master plans) in the DA article cited above:

"Within the next 1½ to two years, we could have infrastructure in place," Oubre said. "We've already got interest in the research space, so that's good."
