Lakers suck arse, Kobe sells seats still.'the point of the statement is unknown

It was said in the context of leaving Landon Donovan off the World Cup roster. Basically, the future is now, and Donovan gets nothing based on what he did in the past.

Why is it funny? Klinsmann hates the MLS.

I meant that Klinsmann is our national team coach, yet our league pays so much for players past their prime. I know how much he hates the MLS.

Idk why this example popped into my head first, but Belichick torched the shite out of that clown Freddie Mitchell after the Pats-Eagles Super Bowl. Basically called him terrible and that he was glad when he was on the field. Thought it was funny because I can't recall Bill ever shitting on another player like that.

IIRC he only did it because Mitchell made it a point to run his mouth and disrespect members of the New England Defense (which was #1 in the league) despite him being an average receiver at best. Had he not done that I doubt BB even acknowledges him

Double edged sword, I guess. Kobe may sell tickets but his massive contract has also crippled the Lakers for the next few years and is a big reason they blow so much right now.

as much as I have always disliked Kobe due to his arrogance that statement is false.

That was his point, but Jurgen is still a fricktard because Donovan was clearly one of our best players at the time. The team played like shite in Brazil for 90% of the time and we started Brad fricking Davis against Germany.

The reason Kobe got that contract is $$$$. Unlike other owners the Buss family business is the Lakers. That's how the family is supported. They just signed a massive contract for the local Laker games. The $3 billion contract with Time Warner has a clauses that if the ratings all below a certain number the Lakers don't get all of the money. They signed Kobe to that contract to reach certain ratings points. If they didn't need the money he would have gotten that deal. At least that's what I read at the gym 6 months ago.

I mean, for putting a shitty product on the court, the Lakers still led the NBA in revenue for the 2013/14 with $293MM. If you don't think Kobe had anything to do with that, then you are retarded.

Well they gave Kobe 1/6th of their gross revenue. Ouch. The question is would they have made less than $243M had Kobe not been signed.

But on the other side people complain that the rich white owners make billions in their lifetimes while the players don't.

Who cares how an owner of a team spends his money?

And he could not be more WRONG.

Kobe's jersey sales and ability to put asses in seats is well worth the $50MM.

Now that's a truth bomb

I wonder what kind of money Kobe would have gotten in the open market. I think that they could have gotten him back at less then a 2 year 50 million dollar deal after no one else offered him that kind of money
