Basketball coach in the college game today? I know you can argue Coach K, and that Izzo doesn't have but one title, but dang he does good in March.

He is the best at getting deep runs with decent teams.

Calipari is, and I hate saying that. A big part of coaching is the ability to recruit and no one does that better than Cal.

He's the best march coach, but not the best regular season coach. What's more amazing is that this is the most untalented team izzo has ever had.

No. Izzo is a pro at underperforming during the regular season. Then he figures his shite out around the tournament, and his team is always way stronger than the seed indicates.

Best X's and O's coach. He's one of those "does more with less" coaches but there are probably 2-3 guys who can coach and are great recruiters that I'd take over him.

Uhm, he's a REALLY good coach and good at getting his team to succeed even when it isn't as talented as most years.

Idk if you can call him the best, though it depends on what you're looking for. Is Saban the best coach? He's successful as all hell, but I highly doubt he's actually the best coach in college.

he does not get the recruits that they get at duke and kentucky. with their recruits, he would be the best

It's hard to say he's the best March coach with one championship. He's great and has done a lot with less talent, but he's also had good to great teams he didn't win titles with.

If he could recruit better, it would be correct.

Whoa now.

Izzo has had talent. There were this stretch where he has had some great college level PGs like Neitzel and Lucas.

That's his fault. It's not like Michigan St can't get elite talent.

Izzo recruits a specific type of player. He does not go for egos or baggage. I have a ton of respect for what he does and how he does it.

You have a good point.

The other "great" coaches have players with a higher level of talent as far as future NBA stars and such. CTI seems to take tough guys who have some size, skill, and basketball IQ and really finds a way to get the maximum out of them.

Well Coach K built Duke into the recruiting powerhouse it is today. Like Calhoun did at UConn. And probably a few other examples.

I don't think you can use this excuse for Izzo anymore when he's been at MSU for 20 years. It's not like East Lansing, Michigan is such an unfavorable city.

However, I will say if the reason for his perceived weakness in recruiting is because he refuses to play the dirty recruiting game like everyone else, he gets much respect from me.
