I met one of my mother's students today. my mother was taking her to the movie theater to see Cinderella for her birthday. The girl was 10 years old and from a foster home. She had never been to a movie theater before.

Really puts things in perspective.

I didn't go to my first movie until I was 15.

Where did you go to make out with girls while making people uncomfortable then?

No shite things can always be worse but does knowing that REALLY make you feel better when you are going through serious shite of your own?

Things could also be better. For example, if you had $1 billion invested in a portfolio with a 5% growth rate, you would earn $50 million a year without doing anything. "Perspective" works both ways.

My SO is a teacher in a poor school and eats lunch in her classroom most of the time. One time one of her students sat in the room during that period and asked her what she was eating, because the kid had no idea what a strawberry looked like at the age of 15. That blows my mind.

It makes me appreciate the opportunities I've had in life.

Even just the basics. Having a family growing up. Have you ever thought how lucky you are to have that?

I've often felt trapped and unable to act recently but that's a selfish mindset.

It's all relative. Ya a pedophile in the US going to frick me in the arse prison in the US may have it better than a starving kid in Africa who is about to be eaten by a vulture but both would suck.

Good saying about people's problems...

You got a room full of people and everybody throws their problems up in the air, you better hope you come down with your own.

Is not going to the movie theater seriously the thing that put life in perspective for you so much that you had to bring it to the OT? What a charmed life you must life. Not even trying to be a dick but c'mon man. First world problem of the year

It was one of the things I always tried to think of when I was going through some of the darkest days of my life. Instead of just feeling sorry for myself and letting myself sink deeper and deeper, thinking about how it could actually be worse...gave me hope and was a wake up call to get my shite together and do what I needed to do to rise up and overcome.

I could easily go 15 years without going to the movie theater and not miss out.

The point was this person hadn't and it was something they had always wanted to do but couldn't. Something most of us could do without blinking an eye.
