If we look over who the Saints have met with it may help us narrow down the direction they plan on heading in the upcoming draft.

Players We Met With At The Senior Bowl:

Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn
Davante Davis, WR, UNLV
Tyler Lockett, WR, Kansas State
Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson
David Cobb, RB, Minnesota
La'el Collins, OT, LSU
Doran Grant, CB/S, Ohio State
Geneo Grissom, OLB/DE/3-4OLB, Oklahoma
Jordan Hicks, OLB, Texas
JaCorey Shepherd, CB, Kansas
Preston Smith, DE, Mississippi State
Martrell Spaight, OLB, Arkansas
Gabe Wright, DT, Auburn

Players We Spent Extra Time With At The Combine:

Mario Edwards Jr., DE/DT/3-4DE, Florida State
Danny Shelton, DT/NT, Washington
Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State (I think this was just to get more insight on him, knowing he was coming to the south)
Clive Walford, TE, Miami
Alvin Dupree, OLB/DE/3-4OLB, Kentucky
La'el Collins, OT, LSU

Players We Met With At The East West Shine Game:

Blake Bell, TE, Oklahoma
Bryce Callahan, CB, Rice
Sam Carter, S, TCU
Dillon Day, C, Mississippi State
Amarlo Herrera, ILB, Georgia
Darrian Miller, OT, Kentucky
Jordan Richards, S, Stanford
Tye Smith, CB, Towson
Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor

Players We Made Special Trips To See At Their Pro-Days

Tavaris Barnes, DE, Clemson
Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson
Alvin Dupree, OLB/DE/3-4OLB, Kentucky
Blake Sims, QB, Alabama
Keon Williams, RB, Chattanooga
Preston Smith, DE, Mississippi State

So Here's What I See:

1. The # 13 pick obviously comes down to Alvin Dupree, La'el Collins or Danny Shelton. I think Shelton will be gone so I would just say Dupree or Collins.

2. The players we made a point of seeing twice could show that we have high interest in that player. There's only 4 of those so far La'el Collins, Preston Smith, Alvin Dupree & Stephone Anthony. But it could also mean that what we saw the first time was enough, we only met with Cooks one time last year. Sean Payton has said how much just one 15-minute interrogation segment with a player could make or break an evaluation. For example, the Saints felt no need to bring Brandin Cooks to New Orleans leading up to last year's draft. The wide receiver wowed the Saints so much they felt the utmost confidence in Cooks as top-flight draft prospect that would fit in perfectly within their program.

3. I think we are going to draft a QB with either one of our 3rds or one of our 5ths and and looks like it comes down to Petty or Sims. We wouldn't have went to Sims pro day unless we really wanted to see what he had and if he would fit in our system.

4. It looks like out of our first 3 picks that 2 of them will be defenders, LBs or DEs. I think the #44 pick is a lock for Stephone Anthony.
(Gotta update my mock)

So what do you guys see? What direction do you think this shows for our draft?

I think if him and Collins are both on the board at 13 its gonna be tough for them to decide.

Maybe we should put them up against each other in a one on one drill, winner take all.

LSUs pro day is on the 27th so lets see if they spend more time with Collins there.

That would be cool but we would have to move up from 31 to get the 2nd player.

Did the Saints tell you that they went to bama's pro day for Blake Sims?

I think there is little correlation between extra time spent with players and inclination to drafting. Just guessing but think there are years where teams entire drafts can be of players with no specially favored visits, etc.

The visits can be as frequently to confirm a NO on a player too.

Have wanted to Meat but life is kinda busy home building... How bout compile a Saints Big Board. Everyone just list the top 13 players, in order, that you would take as GM. You can totalize and evaluate in different ways.

I questioned this whole thing myself, but the only one they talked to while they were there was Sims so I don't know.

Could just be a sneaky way to look at the others without giving it away to the other teams for draft reasons.

Would love him in the 2nd round. He's going to do much better at Pro Day than the combine.

Sam Carter is super smart at Safety. Converted from QB and called the signals for his side of TCU's D for a couple years. He's going to put up above average numbers (no combine invite).

Chucky Hunter would be a guy in the Tyrunn Walker run-stuffer model. 6th round guy.

UDFA LB to keep an eye on is Marcus Mallett. Very much in the Hawthorne mold.

Looking at it more and more, I honestly see a possibility of trading back from 13->15-18 if they really think high value is still possible.

Of course that all depends on who gets taken of course.
imo locks to go in the top 6 are:
Winston
Mariota
Williams
Fowler

There's till 8 more before our pick and there could be one of these guys at 13:
1. Cooper
2. White
3. Gregory
4. Beasley
5. Ray
6. Shelton
7. Waynes
8. Scherff
9. Collins
10. Dupree
11. Parker

I think there's a couple more locks:

White to the Raiders, Beasley to Atlanta and Scherff to the Giants.

I sure hope so! Do not want Sims at all!
