Since zombies and FPS have been beaten into the ground, pissed on, shot up, beaten again, and blown up.

Right now there's a lot of "remastered" games coming to the new systems. Most just lazy money grabs preying on nostalgia.

I think the episodic choice games with dialogue driven stories seem to be more prevalent these days.

You mean final fantasy? Or more like, game movies?

Personally, I want games to just be games. Ocarina of Time had just about the right amount of cinema for me, I don't need 8 hours of story/dialogue in an interactive medium, more like just, here's what happened, here's how to hit the enemy, here's your weapon, off you go son.

I think MOBAS are the current trend right now. As far as the next big game type I'm not sure because there really isn't many new franchises being opened. It's mostly just sequels being made. For me personally I'd love to see more co op dungeon crawlers like diablo and gauntlet legends on console.

Open world multiplayer playground games like GTA V and The Division. I could also see these long novel-story-game types like The Last of Us being huge.

I think it would be fun to have a true open world game for The Walking Dead where people could team up and create communities, make trade deals, try to steal each other's shite, etc all while fighting off Walkers and assholes that are just there to mess with people.

Isn't that sort of what both H1Z1 and DayZ are supposed to be like?

It's nearly impossible to know what the next big thing will be but this game from PAX East has my interest piqued.

Upsilon Circuit

quote:

“Upsilon Circuit is an online action RPG, but there is only one server and there are only eight people in the whole world ever playing the game at one time. And when you die in the game you can never play the game again. ...The game only runs for 2-3 hours a day, but during that time, the audience is able to interact with the server by spawning in monsters to kill active players...

Sounds like a marriage of Twitch and permadeath games that have recently been gaining popularity.

I'm pretty sure they don't expect people to pay $60 for their game. They'll probably go with some kind of free to play model similar to DOTA 2 or Hearthstone. The game is still in beta.

My real point in bringing it up is it could be a "next big thing" type of game or a new genre. People (apparently) love watching other people play games but there's no real interaction from the crowd on the game itself. Additionally, online games are spread across multiple servers and twitch broadcasters. Having it all on one server with one crowd watching and with only one chance to play raises the stakes considerably.

star citizen will be the last game ever created or wanted by the people. it will be so extremely amazing that every other developers mind will literally blow and RSI will be the only ones left. the market will then switch from " what new game should we make now?" to " what can i make to help me enjoy my star citizen even more". So it is written, so it shall be.

going home now, im drunk.

I play basically every type of genre. All I really care about is if the game is fun.

The next NCAA football game will be the most successful game ever. When/if it comes out.
