So now we're supposed to get a data plan for our cars so we don't have to use our phone's data plans? Unless there is unlimited data so the kids can watch movies on wifi only devices I don't see the point.

Probably touts their safety record after giving you a reason to play on the internet while driving. It's like that Mazda that had the Safe and Sound song playing in the commercial but plays up using FB while driving.

Is it really that hard to turn on mobile hotspot? I just won't get it.

Most new models with premium packages have it. The monthly subscription to activate it is stupid expensive though.

My Audi has wifi. It's $30 a month for unlimited data. Doesn't seem stupid expensive to me. Google maps nav ftw.

To me that is too much for wifi in your car.

eta: Only way I could see justifying spending that much for wifi in my car, is if I worked a lot out of my car. I'm just not in my car enough for the cost to justify it.

To me it's an insignificant expense and $30 a month for a data package with unlimited data is by no stretch of the imagination "stupid expensive" as you previously stated.

Now I see your edit. I take several trips a year up to Ohio for football games and it's nice to have plus I have to admit that I like having the pretty maps for nav.

My friend just got an A7 with the Sline trim, and he bought his wife a Q7 at the same time. I think I'm going to go by and take their front plate holders off for them today. Cool rides.

If you are in sales and work from the road/car all day then this would be great. I wish I had it.

Do any smartphones not have hotspot capabilities these days?

It's handy if others are traveling with you. Unlimited data in the car and it doesn't use up their data plan.

Except it's not unlimited.

I realize that most people don't have the same situation I have and can/will find this useful. I just can't imagine it's that many people. Then I over hear non-tech savy people talking about how awesome it is and it makes me want to pull out my hair. I'm on a mobile share plan through work with 2 other people and we share 30 GB/month. The other two people use maybe 1 GB leaving me with ~28GB of mobile data a month so you can see how this would be useless for me.

Mine is unlimited. Audi Connect. For others it may not make sense.

and it looks like your plan is on the way out. The new A3's have LTE and a nice price increase.
quote:

Audi will be the first company with a 4G LTE wireless data connection embedded in a US-market car when the 2015 Audi A3 rolls out to customers in April. 4G will cost $100 total for 5GB of bandwidth spread over six months (not 5GB per month), or $500 for 30GB over 30 months.

quote:

Current Audis use 3G T-Mobile, $30 a month, with unlimited data. Audi will switch its line to 4G LTE over the next three years as new or refreshed models arrive.

Looks that way but doesn't affect me; at least for now.
