I can't believe that some of our members want Caldwell fired. Let's see, she has sent her team to two Sweet Sixteens with less than great talent. Her teams have made the NCAA tournament each year that she has been head coach at LSU. She did not inherit a great amount of talent from Van Chancellor. She dismissed two fairly high profile recruits early in their careers;they deserved it. She suspended her star player this year for 14 games, but the team still made the tournament. The woman knows the game; that is more than I can say for her predecessors. It remains to be seen if she can recruit at a high level. If she cannot, she will eventually go. If she can, the team will be in the national hunt each year.

No, she can't. It doesn't remain to be seen. She's doing it with less than elite talent because she isnt recruiting elite talent.

She has credentials from a basketball standpoint and is a likable person but it all boils down to recruiting. I don't want her fired but she needs to step it up. She is getting paid to do what Beth Torina is doing.

I don't mean to be an a-hole, but this isn't exactly profound or anything a rational fan of the program doesn't know.

How much longer do LSU fans wait for her to learn how to bring great talent to Baton Rouge? Are there actual assistants in women's basketball with elite recruiting connections like the men's side? I find it strange because she's well-spoken, young, pretty, etc..I don't understand how she fricks up recruiting that badly

I'm not anti-Caldwell by any means, but I don't think she should be free from criticism for this season. She should be proud and get some kudos for doing "more with less", but LSU is above that kind of standard. If she doesn't sign a good class next season, I doubt she'll be able to coach her way out of her shortage of talent. But yeah, she can definitely coach them up

Van Chancellor left herwith 7All Americans!

Van Chancellor ran a sterling program at Ole Miss!!

Van Chancellor led 5 teams to the WNBA Championships.

Van Chancellor got old.

Skip hired him so he did not accidently hire someone lickety split.

Van was dismissed by Goldbricka Aleva, and it was done clumsily.

Aleva had no plan but to throw money at Caldwell.

Caldwell has not recruited to compete for championsips.

So what if you can coach but do not have talent to challenge for serious championships, SEC and National? What is your criterion for "She can coach!!" There ae 50 HS coaches, coaching girls, who could outrecruit and outwork Caldwell, and coach as well if NOT BETTER.

Imagine if Caldwell would work year round, for crying out loud she is getting a milllion per year and about 5 times what Pokey made and almost three times Van Elvis Chancellor made too.

Don't give me no Caldwell BS.....she does dress well and is much better looking than Pokey and Van, rolled in a rolypoly, lickety split.

I honestly think her results have been good. If she could somehow get an athletic big person that can make an immediate impact next year, we could actually have a pretty good team. I agree with her go with speed approach now that the women have to get over the line in ten seconds. I did not enjoy the slow teams that Chancellor put on the floor, but I guess that was his philosophy. You also have to understand that the game has changed in the SEC. Most of the SEC teams are now very good; that was not the case until recently. In the past Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss, Vandy, and maybe Georgia had outstanding programs; some of the other teams were laughable.

How crappy must Van have been to not make the tourney with "7 All-Americans" on the roster?

This idiot has come out of hiding. For the last two months there has been many threads about the team's wins and he was nowhere to be found. As soon as someone create a negative post, here he is.

i know for a fact that after we lost that final 4, all he did was post up at the Uclub driving range.

He's a great man that was past his coaching prime upon hiring. He was brought on board for two reasons: public relations and to "get over the hump" with that 5th final 4 team

eta: yeah, the 7 AA part was outrageous

It seems to me that part of the "recruiting problem" is that Louisiana hasn't really produced many really good recruits for some time. I know Brown is highly rated, but the Tech connection ruled her out. I know there is a girl in Rayville who is supposed to be good, and Caldwell needs to go out and get her. It is harder to get players from out of state, because the women's game has grown in popularity and more schools try to field good programs.

Many of the people saying fire her doesnt even give a damn about women's basketball. Every sport that's in season, they say fire that coach.

Its pretty simple, they see the salary and expect results based on that. They aren't mistaken, this school has proven it can support a successful WCBB team for an extended time period. Recruiting has to improve to get LSU past the Sweet 16.

This. The state isn't producing elite talent and it isn't as easy to pull those players from other states and it's made out to be. Texas is mentioned but there is Baylor, Texas, T Tech and the Ags to compete with. I love LSU but it's not UCONN or Tennessee when it comes to WBB. And as for the final 4 runs, credit Seimone for staying home.

She can do better and will have to if the team is to be champions.

How come Pokey was able to pull in ELITE talent at half the price of Caldwell? I'm all for Coach Caldwell, but for the price, she definitely needs to step up her game in recruiting.
