Most of them would play terribly on a touch screen.
They are probably just going to release Nintendo themed mobile games.
Get ready for Mario Crush Saga 10: Zelda's Revenge.

Making a platform a paid service when pretty much every one else does it for free would be a dumb and arrogant move.
inorite, that Xbox Live membership and PS+ membership have been incredible as a free product

A Mario themed candy crush game.
I can already feel my legs falling asleep now.

I'm thinking more along the lines of Steam and Origin. Or is XBL and PSN more of what they're going for?
Maybe I misread that.

Nobody knows what they are going for
It's sad that this might be the best case scenario
It is possible. I just don't think it will happen. Has anyone gone mobile and not declined in the console market?

So are you saying it's not possible for them to dip their toe into the mobile market without it affecting everything else they do?

If your 3DS was also a phone and could receive emails and had a browser, would that be your preferred mobile device?

This is nintendo. They're so far deep in their own world that they might be immune to normal market tendencies.

If they can pull it off, maybe. I'm just not sure they can.
Truest thing I've heard all day

I'm not sure there's anything analogous to this platform. N-Gage is the only real attempt I know of.
Nintendo is ALL about REVOLUTIONS and changing the fricking paradigm these days. We'll see how it works

Winner.
While I don't like the move to mobile either, I'm glad it's with a partner and they aren't just porting titles.
The more interesting bit was this:
quote:
Nintendo and DeNA expect to develop a new core system compatible with a variety of devices including PCs, smartphones and tablets as well as Nintendo's dedicated video game systems, and are to jointly develop a membership service utilizing this system, with a launch targeted for the fall of 2015. The companies expect to further enhance their customer relationships through the membership service.
I wonder what this is pointing towards.
I'm also thinking, from a few shots of those slides, that the NX will be some kind of multiplatform piece. The oft wanted, handheld/console hybrid design.

So basically make only one console that can operate as both?
Posted on 3/17/15 at 9:44 am to CBandits82
That's the idea that's been tossed around for a while
Posted on 3/17/15 at 9:50 am to Mr Gardoki
How would that work?
Basically something the size of a portable that can also plug into the TV?
Would be bad arse considering developers would only have to develop for one system.

That's the idea. Perhaps it streams to the tv like the gamepad does now. Who knows. Since they don't strive for power they are in a position to do it.

well the Vita really tried to put the console experience in your hand. The biggest issue is heat and moving parts, on a console you have processors that get hotter with better venting, you have drives that have moving parts. On a handheld you have flash memory, processors designed to put off not heat etc. - If Nintendo can figure out a way to have a handheld that can output video at a higher resolution than the WiiU, while still being stable and not burn your hands, all the power to them.

How about just a Bluetooth dongle that goes in your TV's HDMI port? The device is the console, the controller, the phone, etc

Been a long time coming. DeNa partnership is huge and they'll make a ton of money. Stock is up over 20%.

What's this

What's this
A parent company that puts out and manages a ton of smartphone games. Nintendo will likely farm out their IPs or do small projects and hand over the management/new content over to DeNA for support after launch.
