That team won the SEC and got an 8th seed. That team had the talent to make a run in the tournament, and with got paired with the best team in the country in the 2nd round.

Gave them the best game of any other team in that tourney too. The game would have definitely been better played in the final 4.

The fact that they were paired with the #1 overall team means they were a borderline 9 seed. And they were paired with a butler team that could have been a six seed themselves.

I'm still bitter about this 6 years later as well. Marcus Thornton could've easily led that team to a Sweet 16. SEC Champs a 9 seed, was such an unbelievable snub.

They were an 8 seed in 09.

They didn't do themselves any favors with an extremely light schedule. (Though you can say those easy games let the team grow together and build confidence). And they lost 3 of their last 4. If they don't choke on Senior night and play better in the SECt they're probably a 6 or 7. The SEC was very bad.

That 2009 team beat no one of note. In fact, if it wasn't for Miss. St. unexpectedly winning the SECT, the 09 LSU team would have beaten only one team all year that made the NCAAT.

To compare, this year's team, despite a weak SOS and several bad losses, has a 6-1 record vs. NCAAT teams

Was Xavier like the only top 25 team we played that year? And we lost at home? Or was that a diff season

LSU beating a mediocre Kentucky team in Rupp is probably the only regular season win I actually vividly remember in 2009

had to look it up... holy smokes that OOC schedule was a joke

they did work in SEC to be fair... but perhaps they got full of themselves after the win at Rupp... b/c they lost 3 out of the next 4

you have the right season... lost to #15 Xavier by 10 in the PMAC in the only game against a top-25 team before Butler in the NCAAT

My most vivid memory is going to almost every home LSU game before that one and it being pretty empty. Then I go to Xavier is its packed. Thats my main memory, look at how packed the arena was when I walked in. And Im like, huh, interesting.

Ugh and I remember listening to that god awful Utah loss on the radio when I was driving somewhere

I remember going to the Kentucky game at home and recall about 11k being there.

Come to think of it, is that the only season LSU basketball has ever swept Kentucky in a season?

should we talk about squeaking out a 2 point win over ULL on New Year's Eve?

LSU played Kentucky at Rupp & at St. Pete Times Forum in the SECT

and yes won both... didn't play at the PMAC

It was my freshman year and I covered the Jackson State game as a member of the media. I immediately knew I didn't want to waste my life as a sportswriter after that.

We definitely had a good shot at beating UNC that game. We just didn't have the depth and ran out of steam the last minutes of each half.

That is what happens when you drop 3 of your last 4 games entering the tourney as a member of the weakest conference in the country.
