Tulane 2B Jake Willsey pulled a Willie Mays Hayes last night to tie the game and take it to extra innings. Watch the pitcher and first baseman trying to get the catcher to tag him after the leap.

Pretty sure he tagged his foot.

But awesome play.

Obviously he didn't if you look at his teammates reactions. Here's a still pic of the play, really hard to tell.

Upon further review, it appears his foot hit the catchers helmet, not the glove. Something jolted his left foot as he jumped over the catcher.

Still an awesome play.

My son and his buddy were right behind the plate and said they couldn't tell either way. The still picture I found doesn't show it clearly one way or the other either but at least the ump was right there. One of those crazy plays that happens once in a while.

"He's gonna be out by 10 feet,... but wait a minute he jumped over the catcher! He jumped over the catcher!!"
good stuff there.

It can be a dangerous play. If the tag was hard just above the ankle the runner would have cut a complete flip because he is in the air. Probably would have landed on his head.

Suckaaaaaaaa.

Awesome play. We had a guy in HS duck/slide under the 1st baseman trying to tag him going down the line. 1B was so mad.

He was 10 feet out of the baseline trying to avoid a tag. Should've been out.

You have know judgement of distances if you really think he was 10 feet from the line!
