No, you want the stadium in easy walking distance of the French Quarter and CBD. That is what makes NOLA such a good event city and that is what makes the Dome so attractive.

you have used real figures to back up your argument, and I'm sure it could work.
We're just chewing fat here, but there are a LOT non-football things that can affect everything. Like wars, hurricanes, stock blips, etc. No way to know how everything will eventually play out.
But it's fun to "what if" and see what people Crystal Ball. One thing we all can agree on. There is not a whole lot of available land in NOLA downtown in which build a stadium on. If I had to bet, it would be:
#1 Loyola and Girod (Post Office, no LSU) 60%
#2 Superdome Site (2 yrs at LSU) 25%
#3 Convention Center (no LSU) 15%
With #1 a new Arena would most likely go on the Superdome Site integrated with Champions Square, with a giant garage where the arena is now.

Oh its definately doable as long as NOLA stays a top tourist and convention destination. The amount of hotel tax revenue that is generated to pay for it evens out the equation. If we were a city the size of NOLA without the tourism we wouldn't even be able to dream about it.
BTW: that post took me like 45 mins to come up with.

While I agree that the dome needs to be replaced and the location is more than ideal, I don't see the Saints in NOLA 15 years from now. Whoever ends up owning the organization after Benson passes will take them to another city with a new stadium that is subsidized by the locals and leave us high and dry. I hope I'm wrong, but we have to be real at some point.
You are dead wrong. The NOLA and the whole state love the Saints and the Saints have a plenty of support. Corporations are moving to La that were not here prior to Katrina and since the NFL shares its revenue equally there wouldn't be a lot to be gained by moving. The NFL is also fiercely loyal to markets that support their team and local governments that are power bottoms. The Saints ain't going nowhere, now the Pels could (if they have a different owner than the Saints), but AD is about to lead the Pels to 5 titles in the next 10 years and there will be nothing but sellouts (I can dream, can't I).

Put it in Gulfport on I-10.
Remember when that was a real idea?

Why is it so bad to sacrifice two seasons for long term gain? So you have two years to forget. Who cares. High draft picks going into new stadium as consolation.

How big is that site? It doesn't look big enough on google maps.

no way. its way too humid down here.

You are correct, as per the Post Office and Fed Bldg, about 100 short on the width, when using the Dome outer roof ring circumference. Now that's probably about 100ft bigger (remember it hangs over, whereas a new stadium would probably go straight up). So I think it could be shoehorned in, provided the old Macy's and garage went, without demolishing the Dome or Arena. Just the Dome's Champions Square garage would have to go.
So technically it looks like it's doable provided the new stadium is that much narrower than the Dome circumference. But also important to note is that technically, they could build a replacement stadium WHILE the Superdome is still in use. I'm thinking more and more that will be how it's done vs going to Tiger Stadium for 2 years.
Frankly, I think it would be very cool looking, with the open end facing down Howard Avenue with the end of the Stadium almost directly on Loyola. However, the Plaza Tower would be directly in that line of sight. But, the Stadium there, that building would immediately see a Renaissance - probably condos. What is that view worth with the roof open? Pull your La-Z-Boy up to the window and enjoy the game!
If I get some time this evening, I will take measurements from Reliant Stadium (a likely design given the tight space), and see how it would actually fit. The new stadium won't win any design awards, but it doesn't need to be $1.2+ billion like Jerry World either.
I'm really thinking this Riverfront stadium is probably a no go. Traffic down there was ridiculous last weekend as it was in the Warehouse District, with nothing really big going on (Buku was in the middle of the concert, so that wasn't it)

It's not. I'd gladly sacrifice two seasons to get a brand spanking new stadium at the right location. But it's not my money and it's not my decision. I'm just saying that ol' boy Benson said he'd never let the Saints play in Tiger Stadium again. If he ever felt like retracting that, fine.
And in his defense, it was a logistical nightmare. Getting a beer in Tiger Stadium was one of the worst experiences at a sporting event ever, for me. Actually, I wound up not even getting a beer. Just said, frick it, and went back to my seat.

Very impressive. I can honestly say there are few times that I learn something by visiting this board (excluding the genius of the gameday threads, of course ). This is certainly one of them. Have an upvote, sir!

Also try Lucas Oil stadium if you get the chance. Hell yes it should it be a $1.2+ billion stadium. NOLA deserves that best it doesn't have to be the biggest but it should be the best and nicest. I figures 1.5 million by basing it off the failcounts stadium plus inflation and 500 million for a new NBA arena (SAC's new arena). If you want a stadium(s) that will last more than 20 years than you have to go big or go home.

TB will not be in charge in 2025.

That was probably because of the logistical issues caused by the timing of Katrina and the NFL season. The Vikings had more than a year to work out the issues with UM.

IMO new stadiums are a huge waste of money in most cases. I've been to about six NFL stadiums, of which the Superdome is the oldest. The Dome is about the middle of the road with regard to actual facilities, and is by the best fan experience b/c of location.
The Superdome has hosted more Superbowls than any other venues, and it isn't because it is the newest or shiniest, it is because it offers the best overall experience and people love attending events there. Building a new stadium will get most cities one Superbowl, and the economic benefits of hosting a Superbowl are questionable at best.
The city has the right approach. Keep making improvements, and keep the Dome.

Lets be honest a pre-planned move to tiger stadium should be a better fan experience than the quick Katrina move.

While the Dome is still a great place for football, I do think it's an impediment to getting another Super Bowl because it's age is used against it.

An open stadium? frick that. frick every part of that idea.

If it gets developed, then the only three areas left for a new stadium would be the Dome site (meaning a move to Tiger Stadium for 2 years, not optimal), NO East or Algiers (too far from downtown).
You forgot Kenner. We could put it in Kenner. Next to Treasure Chest.
They've been making slow but steady improvements to the Dome for a couple years and it is really coming along nicely. It is also one of the most iconic sports stadiums in the nation with a very rich history of hosting a plethora of events.

It is also one of the oldest in the league. It will be 50 when the lease is up and it will require more upgrades and maintainence to remain profitable and a viable Super Bowl host. I love the Dome and its location is perfect, but it will have to be replaced eventually and more than likely will be replaced at the end of this lease.

Even the most iconic stadiums eventually have to be replaced. Prime example is Yankee Stadium.
