I'm not worried about the Graham deal. Only two things Loomis has done i didn't like was I felt at the time Sproles was released a year early and I feel Lofton is a very underrated LB. Kinda wish we could have held on to PT since I feel he is better than Spillers and Bush anyways.

There was no doubt that we would field a team next year, but with all the cuts, trades, and changes, do we still see Loomis as a miracle worker when it comes to the salary cap? This team will be dramatically different next year. Looks like they tried to win big last year and since it didn't work, they are completely rearranging the team.

This has become a 2 year plan, IMO.

Young talent infusion this year
Take on all dead money this year
Take your lumps
Good salary cap position next year
Add multiple FAs next year

Lay it all on the line for 2016.

you're mocking me but ive said for years it would eventually come to this.

Not that the sky is falling. But not being able to replenish our talent through the draft has killed us. You can only keep converting salary to signing bonus for so long.

We don't really draft well, but I don't really have an issue with any moves we've made so far.

I agree. It just sucks why we lost Graham. I can live with what we got back.

Just gotta hope we actually draft worth a frick finally.

2013 draft was solid for us. Armstead, Stills, Vaccaro, Jenkins, Khiry as an UDFA

2006 draft was spectacular.

Outside of that it's been pretty shitty to average. We have to draft well.

I think part of the reason is that Brees is probably better without a surefire go-to. He's at his best using 6 receivers a game. Kind of like Dell Demps saving Monty from himself. Plus adding Unger and a 1st, I like it a lot. I never wanted to give Graham the big contract anyway.

The Pats win 12 games every year and never go through offseasons like this

Actually this is just like a pats offseason. Let a few big name free agents or long time team guys walk or get traded (Wilfork, Revis, Máyo, Welker) and bring in a bunch of no names and one or two quasi big name free agents (Corey Dillon, Browner, Moss).

Graham has been forced the ball recently because our WR corp started to get old & we've lost that explosive player out the backfield.

2011 was Graham's best year(and prob the best offensive season in our history)..

But we had Sproles. He had the best season in NFL history in all purpose yards.

Colston was still atop his game.

Lance Moore was in his prime.

Meachem/Devery were great at their role.

We had Nicks/Evans in the middle. Bushrod was solid at LT.

It was a well oiled machine.

IMO forcing Jimmy Graham isnt why we haven't been up to our usual level. It is the guys around him. Not just at WR, but on the line too.

You're right but we're probably not going to have a corp like that again, might be best to just keep it spread around. Maybe they think Graham's foot and shoulder issues will linger. I don't know, I just never really liked having a tight end eating up so much room.

Spectacular draft in 2006 -> 10-6
Down year in 2007 -> 7-9
2008 -> 8-8
SB 2009 -> 13-3

Spectacular draft in 2013 -> 11-5
Down year in 2014 -> 7-9
"okay year in 2015" -> 8-8
SB 2016 -> 13-3

I'm regular enough. I've been following the Saints obsessively since 1981 so, whatever.

I like Loomis and he has done good work. But, the approach here looks more like we had to jettison players that we were counting on because a bunch of stuff didn't work out and we got caught in a bad cap situation.

That is not a Rantardish assessment. It may not agree with your opinion, but it isn't out of bounds.

If Saints Talk is ONLY for sunshine pumping, then it is a pretty poor message board, in my opinion. Obviously, a lot went wrong to go 7-9 last year amidst the expectations. Maybe the organization is fixing it, but it is the same leadership that put the 7-9 team on the field, so I'm not convinced yet.

2009 was a long time ago.

I think they are making the right moves to get this team as a contender again. I don't know if it'll happen this season, but I feel these moves will help us.
