Financing Dental School options

My son recently was accepted to the LSU Dental School in New Orleans. We are trying to figure out the best way to finance this endeavor that won't leave him with a huge debt at graduation. What is the best option: Sallie Mae, a personal loan or another option?

Going to be similar to options in undergrad and school can provide guidance on the options. Main thing is to minimize expenses. He will be studying way too much to work and make any cash and won't have much free time in the summer to work for extra cash either.
The second thing is to keep expenses low when he gets out for the first few years. A house, baby and a BMW will drag those loans out forever, and you don't get the tax deduction on student loans when you make dentist money.

Loans with all expenses reimbursed through lastart 529 plan. He can get a 14% match on his total contributions.

Marry someone who has started their career already.

It's not cheap, so the options are to pay now, pay later with interest, or get a scholarship.
If you finance the total ride, he will have a huge debt at graduation, thankfully, he will make enough money eventually to service it.
Just try to borrow the least you can. If you can pay for his housing and living needs, that would be a big help to him.
Oh and congrats!

Just curious. How much is Dental School? Wondering how much it costs to be taught how to be a crook. Haha. Just joking. Really how much?

Honestly, join the military. Gets you a ton of experience, they reimburse you and pay youw ell enough as a officer/doctor that it won't be horrible. Grandfather was an Army doctor and absolutely loved it.
Here are a ton of options for service for loan reimbursement

Actually came in here to say this. Two of my female friends from high school (went to Auburn actually) both randomly posted on Facebook that they had been commissioned as Officers in the Air Force. Both in Med School and did it for this very reason.

No debt guaranteed job and training. Again you make a bonus for being a doc too I believe + housing. Sweet gig
Grandfather put in ~20 as oral surgeon and had opportunity to make a ton more in private practice in addition to ballin military retirement. Chose to be an academic but definitely a great way to go

Military is good deal for general dentistry or primary care on the medical side. But, if you're going into a dentistry sub specialty or high paying medical sub specialty it makes terrible financial sense.

Thanks for the info. He's starts in August so I think the military may be out of the question. Looks like $$$$ anyway you go.

You can always try to opt into the reserves

My friend was able to apply for and get a Air Force scholarship during the first year of dental school. The Air Force picked up the bill for the remaining three years, it was a one for one deal, so he served 3 ears active duty.
